Macbook Air v Pro v Thinkpad Nano $800

Hello. I am a clinical researcher and in the market for a new laptop. I am trying to decide between the new Macbook Air v Pro v Thinkpad X1 Nano. Bestbuy has the Air on sale for $800 which is a great deal. However I am unsure of what the difference is between the Pro and Air except the touchbar and better speakers. The main thing for me is having a laptop that I can connect to a second monitor and essentially run all day for my work. I am also looking at the Thinkpad Nano but lenovo says it can take 2 months to ship. I hear that new laptop updates are coming within next 2 months from Apple including the 14 inch Pro. Just wanted someone's perspective if one should wait or buy now (I can wait). Another recommendation that someone gave me was to upgrade the Air with more ram and HD space so it would essentially be just as good as a Pro and last longer. Wanted some insight. Thank you.
