A couple of things:
- the 4k-IPS display is incredibly bright. Not the full 600 nits, but around the low 500s. I had it for a month and then upgraded to the OLED.
- The fans run loud and proud at full throttle. But at normal load, it is totally silent.
- The sound was theoretically upgraded in this gen 2 model, but dont expect anything miraculous. Gaming laptops definitely have it better here. For mine, the sound is quite meh.
- The monitor output runs directly to the daughterboard GPU, so youll be using full power whenever it is docked. (In theory, this should make up for the lack of a mux switch, but I havent tested it as I rarely game)
- Every screen is 60 hz. This is a creators' laptop, not meant for gaming.
- There is technically no longer a "max-Q" for the Ampere generation and up, but the manufacturer can implement energy saving tech on their own...which is pretty horrible because now you really have to dig to find performance specs. My Turing-based RTX 4000 is a 90-watt Max-Q variant.
- Four Ram slots, but two of them are under the keyboard so they take a few more minutes to get to. The other two can be accessed with one screw on the bottom.
The downsides:
- It is over 6 lbs. You dont feel it while carrying, honestly, but you WILL notice the thickness of the machine.
- Keyboard is off center due to inclusion of number pad. A worthwhile tradeoff for the crunchers here, but your hands will have to get used to it.
- The battery barely lasts two hours away from an outlet when doing anything which taxes the machine. its a 94Wh, but a 90w GPU and a 45w (lol, yah right) CPU will chew it up.
And the big issue: The cooling just cant cut mustard. It may be because I am using the 14nm comet lake chip (Xeon w 10855m), but my chip has a turbo of 4.8 ghz, and overboost of 5.1 ghz. When running a burn-in, youll permanently hover at 3.2 ghz. If you run the CPU and GPU at full-blast, the 230w brick limits the machine (reads 227w on my kill-a-watt)
So far, no reviews for the P15 Gen2 or the T15g Gen2, but I have not heard of any miracles from the 10nm variant for other manufacturer machines in terms of heat dissipation. However, you get a ton of other good stuff with the 11th gen (PCIe 4, DDR4 3200, AVX-512, Iris Xe integrated graphics, 3 NVME slots vs 2).
The absolute best part: This is a thinkpad. It will last you a long-long time. The keyboard is a splendid thing to behold. The support will bend over backwards to help you with any issues 24/7. youll get overnight parts, next-day service, and the usual perquisities of a corporate machine. I came from a P51.
AMA if youd like more info and Ill do my best to provide.

Don't need though. My X1E gen2 w/OLED is a monster. Won't buy any other brand.
EDIT: Found it from their spec sheet in case anyone else is interested: https://imgur.com/N5VESp9https://imgur.com/N5VESp9 [imgur.com]
