Although it is not necessary, it is nice to show you the battery monitoring and charging alerts. The common issue found with these jump starters are that people found it not sufficiently charged when they need it. Or you can set an alert in your calendar to remind you to recharge it every 6 months. Other than that, the bluetooth connection to the app on your phone would guide you through the process and display any error message during jump start. Some jump starter has a LED display for that, others just with some LED indicator.

Bluetooth connection might be nice for who do not what they're doing, not needed for experienced people as it's just draining both battery of the phone and starter, but it's ok just not to pair with ti.
This reply from Duracell support enough for me to pass this deal. When I need that for emergency or immediate use, I need it to work regardless.
"Due to the integrated safety features that prevent reverse polarity, the jump starter will not allow for energy to flow through the cables, unless it is properly connected to a battery with at least 3 volts of stored power. Any less than 3 volts, the battery is too weak for detection."

I own 3 jump start packs from diff brands on 3 cars because they are super useful in a jam, and ranging from about 3-5yrs old, and I've never had an issue. Granted they all state something crazy like would start a 7.0L engine and all my cars were i4 to v6 at most. Usually comes with little light bars to show you how much power is left and surprisingly after almost 2yrs, most had 80% left. I once had to use one to jump start my car about 6x while running errands with no time to get battery replaced and by the end of day, it had about 50% left. So TLDR, you dont need a BT app. But, this is about going price for no-name if you have Costco membership so it's not a bad price. I'd be curious more on what type of battery is used inside (LiFePO4?)

If your battery goes below 9.5V, you need a new battery anyway.

I was just making a joke, but a Bluetooth connection just to tell you to recharge this thing once every six months? Or an app to show you how to use this? I think about 3 sentences posted on the side of the charger would be sufficient for instruction, but I'll never underestimate our need to be connected to things... yes an LED indicator would be sufficient to show errors, it already has reverse polarity protection ..

Is this not a common "feature", though? I guess I've seen some that let you override it.

Have to agree these things are nice, great in a pinch. Aside from cars they work great for cranking dead riding mowers, hell i find a ground and connect hot right to the starter and get running!

It actually shows you the battery level on the app. It is kind of like those smart home devices showing battery level in the app and sends you notification when it is low.
