Paid $135 for these back in 2015. Sold them in April of this year for $115. They're classic entry-levels that hold up very well. Highly recommend them, but you'll need an amp to push this 250 ohm version.

Bear in mind at 250 ohms this will be wicked good quality, but you're going to need an amp to drive it right. Plugging it into a phone or desktop computer won't cut it, it'll likely be way too quiet for you.

I bought the 80 ohms version for $170 and it's a bit quiet on my laptop, desktop, and even my SSL2+ audio interface.

I have both the 250 and 80. 80 seems more versatile and flexible since you can connect it to anything. 250 will need a dac/amp to drive it. I prefer the 80 for listening. If you have windows, look into AutoEQ. If you have Mac, get EqMac (premium) which includes AutoEQ. AutoEQ provides sound equalization that has been normalized and how the headphones should sound. Highly recommended. Any headphone you use should be AutoEQ'd. Especially quality ones like Beyerdynamics.

I EQ all my headphones(Senn HD598, AKG K712 Pro, and Focal Elex), but I use oratory1990's EQ setup and then slightly tweak to my preference.

I have the 990 250 ohms and it's the best headphones I've ever tried. I can use it on my desktop, many (probably most) new motherboards have built in amps to drive something like this. I am able to have it quite loud and the audio is always clear. For a turntable though it definitely needs a decent amp.

I've been on the hunt for a pair my first pair of "studio" headphones. I'll be using it to practice mixing with my Pioneer DDJ controller + electric guitar with a little 10-watt bass amp (1/4 connector)

Will this be a good option in this $$ range?

Any suggestions on an Amp to pair then with? Or maybe a site I can look at for suggestions?

I ran them with a Schiit Magni 2 Uber for years, which provided plenty of power. Have since upgraded to Focal Clears with Schiit Jotunheim 2 (be careful, slippery slope!).

Of course these would be on sale shortly after I bought them! I am excited. I'm pairing them the the JDS Atom dac/amp although I heard the schiit dac/amp will work well too.

Keep in mind these are the close back model as opposed to the 990 pros which are open back if that's your thing.

Right? I just bought the 80 ohm version on Amazon yesterday. Amazon offered 6 months free financing though so I'll probably just stick with them.

I had the 770s 250 ohm but sold it. while yes it's true that 250 ohm means you'll need an amp to get the best out of these, you can use them without an amp. You may have to crank it up a little but there will be audible sound coming out the drivers to a reasonable listening level for music and general use. There are also amps at just about any budget range so I wouldn't let that deter you. These are built like tanks can take rough and tumble you throw at it, very comfortable with the velour pads, amazing soundstage for closed headphones, and the 250 ohm version comes with coiled cable (at least mine did) which I prefer over long straight cable. You can't swap out the cable easily unfortunately.
The thing that was a dealbreaker for me was the ear piercing highs, but it's not an issue for everyone. If you are one of those who isn't bothered by the treble peak, you would be owning a pair of amazing headphones that could last you a lifetime.
