- Quake II RTX is fully ray-traced and includes the 3 levels from the original shareware distribution.- This version of the game includes three levels to test with more ray tracing-fueled visual fireworks if you own the original game. |

If you download as 'offline backup' you never need to employ the GOG installer. Makes multiple device installs easier as well. Good excuse to fill up a hard drive :-)
The Strogg are a really cool enemy. Quake IV does an amazing job of letting you visualize the fight against the Strogg, especially with that famous stroggification scene.
There are two ways that I think Quake II outshines Quake IV though. First off, the opening scene is epic. Second, I think Quake II did a better job of depicting the brutality of the Strogg because the industrial scale of the Stroylent production just seemed a lot more massive and brutal. When I found the crazed soldiers, it was harrowing.
I highly recommend both games.
I'm glad it's finally available on GOG though.
