  • About this game:
    • Shortly after landing on an alien surface, you learn that hundreds of your men have been reduced to just a few. Now you must fight your way through heavily fortified military installations, lower the city's defenses and shut down the enemy's war machine. Only then will the fate of humanity be known.
    • Quake II RTX is fully ray-traced and includes the 3 levels from the original shareware distribution.
    • This version of the game includes three levels to test with more ray tracing-fueled visual fireworks if you own the original game.

The Nvidia and GitHub releases do not come with the data files which you have to source separately. The Gog release comes with the data files.

If you download as 'offline backup' you never need to employ the GOG installer. Makes multiple device installs easier as well. Good excuse to fill up a hard drive :-)

Quake II is famous for its multiplayer, but I really enjoyed the single player campaign. I also loved Quake IV, which is basically a remake.

The Strogg are a really cool enemy. Quake IV does an amazing job of letting you visualize the fight against the Strogg, especially with that famous stroggification scene.

There are two ways that I think Quake II outshines Quake IV though. First off, the opening scene is epic. Second, I think Quake II did a better job of depicting the brutality of the Strogg because the industrial scale of the Stroylent production just seemed a lot more massive and brutal. When I found the crazed soldiers, it was harrowing.

I highly recommend both games.

Or you could grab it directly from NVIDIA [nvidia.com]. The GitHub link [github.com] allows you to download it directly without having to sign in anywhere.

I'm glad it's finally available on GOG though.

Does this include the multiplayer? Is it linked to the original game? Are those servers still going?! What about the crazy mods? Oh man I remember one mod came up with like six different grenade types, it was so fun. It was the first major multiplayer game I played online. 1997 or so.

I remember the game being longer than this, where you can get guns such as the BFG. I was able to beat it within 15 minutes?
