For those interested.
I was able to spend my rewards while getting a "better than average lately" deal for this drive. That is where the real slickness came into play for me, so I thought I would share.
- 2-year warranty and no shucking.
- Being a green style drive at 5400rpm, not recommended for use as an OS drive. Best case use is for storage/backing up files.

This is a 5400 RPM 8TB drive. I haven't seen cheaper 8TB drives lately, so if you are interested NOW in an 8TB drive, decent enough price, and burning rewards is a big plus for us Staplers.
Ships free, or check for store pickup option if preferred and available near you.

Since by your own admission you had a very unique type of motor failure, that unique failure may not affect a high percentage. All spinning drives, SSDs, m.2s, USB sticks, Micro SD cards, or whatever, will have some of them fail.
Please point to some empirical statistics that show this particular drive having some unusually high rate of failure.
Always back up data on any drive, regardless. I just can't accept your blanket statement as valid without a reputable source.

All I am saying is crapping on this particular drive as having a higher than average failure rate is not founded without a source based on statistics from a reputable source.
Everyone has their anecdotal experience. I completely understand having a sour position as a result. It just doesn't translate to scaling up on its own. I haven't owned any of this model so I want to be advised properly if there is statistical data showing they are a higher-than-average failure rate.
Typically this fear-mongering happens in hard drive threads and I am only asking for a valid reason to have that stance. Usually, it is only anecdotal or based on faulty (outdated and/or irrelevant as in your case) sources. I'm just trying to defend against irrationality.
Are you still crying Deathstar for all Hitachi drives? I have had a 3TB (Seagate) failure once, so what has that to do with this drive? It obviously didn't stop me as I just got mine.
I have many drives (40-50?) with a mix of all sizes and brands and have so far had 1 drive fail in as far as I can remember. The 1 failure was a Seagate 3TB drive. It was a backup drive like these are designed as for storage (not for OS). So I had to rebuild a new backup drive. PITA, but not catastrophic.
I hope you got them replaced under the 2-year warranty. You aren't throwing them away I hope. So you aren't out all the money. PITA? Sure. Once again, sorry and I hope I don't have any problems with my first one.
