  • About this item:
    • This trash can operates with infrared motion sensor technology to allow you to simply wave your hand above the sensor at the front of the lid to open it automatically. The lid will remain open as long as there is an object in front of the sensor and close gently five seconds after the object is removed. If a hand or object breaks the infrared beam between the lid and the sensor while it's closing, re-triggering technology opens the lid again to prevent lid from closing on your hand.

2 D batteries, if wondering
I have this in silver and love it. I've had it for about 6 months now.
However, it is very sensitive if you reach for something or just walk by. I have not had to change the batteries yet.

As I added a filler to reach free shipping , entered payment info and click place order. Walmart throws a message that the items including the candy filler is OOS.

Walmart still needs to catch with Amzn.

EDIT [ Third attempt made it thru]

Agreed, it's a great can, only takes 2 vs 4 D-batteries, but is super sensitive

Yes, all you have to do is press the button on top next to the sensor...when done, press the sensor again, green light will come on and goes back to auto open. HTH Wave

FWIW - I use these garbage bags [amazon.com] in it, they're really snug and don't move when you use the liner lid. (they're grey)
Any garbage bag actually works, but I found these to be the best for some reason. Personal opinion though.

If you have a ceiling fan anywhere near this it will randomly open the garbage via the wind. Opens if you pass by it. I wound up just buying a manual foot one from Costco. It randomly opening was annoying after awhile

I went to walmart to comapre between different trashcans and buy a good one. I did like the design of this but it is very much prone to dent as the steel is too thin. A little hard press with hand will create a dent. Also I found 3 in stock and all of them had dents. I bought a more sturdy one without the motion sensor.

I bought one of these at this price a few weeks ago. It's great. Despite the reviews, and some comments, noting dents, mine arrived in the mail with no dents. The sensor works nicely, even when it is very dark, which impressed me. Haven't tested it in pitch darkness but that's unrealistic and unnecessary in my household. Referring to the other comments in this thread, no false sensor reactions for me, it really only reacts when I put something fairly close over the sensor on the top. Overall, very satisfied, especially for the price!

Is there a way to turn the sensor off?

I bought it couple of weeks back same price. This also needs two D batteries, so bought together for free shipping. All the motion sensors ones in Amazon have shipping cost and this is the cheapest I found. Quality is decent (very light metal), worth the price.
