So for someone with zero experience in 3d printers... is this a reasonable starter/learning printer?

Any suggestions on website tutorials? Is there free software to download/modify/create models?

Sorry for all of the questions.... been on the fence if this is something I want to play around with.
VERY reasonable, but there is a learning curve and you have to like tinkering. There are TONS of tutorials on YouTube. Look up CHEP 3d printing but there are much more available. And there are sites dedicated to the community with very useful tips, tutorials, etc. That's probably one of the biggest benefits to the ender 3, huge community out there.

Octoprint plus a pi camera plus a cheap kasa smart plug is a huge upgrade. I turn on my printer from my office, monitor prints, and have it auto shutoff on completion.
Great idea! Prints take so long I was trying to figure out how to get it printing and monitor it while at work. Any safety mods I should consider? I hear about fire hazards

I've had mine for a little over a year now. It was a bit frustrating learning how to use it at first but fairly easy once you get the hang of it. I would definitely recommend upgrading to the silent board. The noise difference from the stock to upgraded board is night and day.
How does upgrading to the silent board work? Is it something you can buy or make to add on or a different version of the printer?

Any opinions on the Pro vs the V2? From what I've read, the V2 already has an upgraded bed, PSU and quieter motherboard. Just not sure if it's worth the price difference (~$180). Thanks!

I had a hunch we could get a sub 100 solid 3D printer. Kind of wish I didn't use my other phone number on the ssd the other day. One question that might be dumb, would these hold up well in a heated garage? Would rather do my prints out there.

Thinking to give this a shot. I got the coupon and my MicroCenter says 25+ in stock so will run over tomorrow.

I assume the sample filament isn't enough to do much. Any suggestions on what extra filament I should grab while at MicroCenter to play with?

Seconded -- silent board is a must and reduces noise than my enclosure and dampers (both optional - I went a bit HAM when I got my 3 Pro and have loved learning + modding it).

Also, 3d printing random gifts easily moved me into #1 uncle status with my nieces and nephews. From movie characters to animals to small snap-together models, this thing can make any number of small widgets and toys for kids.

Edit: Oh, and also practical for creating various jigs for projects and household creature comforts.

The registration link does not ask for a household adress - just a "new" email address and a "new" telephone number. The coupon link is immediately sent to the telephone number after the text is confirmed.

You may stop all texts and unsubscribe from emails as soon as the coupon is received, but keep in mind that those can not be used for "new customer" promotions again - they stay in the MC database forever.

I'm not an expert, but I've read it has to do with the shape of the signal sent to the stepper motors (sine wave vs stock board's square wave).

All I know is that it worked -- an Electrical or Mechanical Engineer can probably confirm or rebuke.

It has a steep learning curve but lot of YouTube videos to help, ton on upgrades that one can do. Problem is after a year you kind of slow down and then actual problem starts, now my prints are not sticking anymore and I have tried every damn thing suggested on YouTube, no help…so it's getting dust after 1 year of fun projects
