I read that it better to have 2 smaller air filter than 1 large one like these that cover 1500 sqft, make sense since you stuck one of these baby in 1 area might take a super long time to filter the farthest corner.
Check with your energy provider to see if they have $25 or $50 rebates for energy star air purifiers. Unfortunately my local provider dropped from $50 rebates to $25 this year.
FWIW, it is currently priced more than $100 under average price; ref: ccc

But, it's been on the market for almost 5 years, so it's probably getting replaced so app support may fall behind during the life of ownership if you purchased now.

Consumer Reports doesn't recommend the 300 model for this one. Says dust/pollen/smoke removal is only 2/5. Gonna pass. Pretty satisfied so far with my Blueair Pure 211+ even though it is in slightly a larger space than it's rated.
This is 400.

I got a couple of these because of Consumer Reports. On full blast this is one of the most quiet air cleaners. The downside is that according to consumer reports the low filter setting doesn't do much. Not an issue because it's relatively quiet on full power.

My only concern is that the charcoal filters are very expensive and should be changed twice a year. In three years you bought the machine again.
Not sure what you're talking about. I have one. You don't replace the charcoal filters twice a year. Not sure where you heard that. Also the aftermarket filters for these are really cheap like in the $30 range for a year.

For those looking for a more entry level filter, a box fan with a 20x20x1 furnace filter slapped on the back is plenty for most people. On low setting, the air draw is enough to hold the filter in place. Simple as that, and I've had one running continuous for ~5 years now, plus 2 others I've added in another bedroom and near the litter box.

Since they're run continuous rather than cycled like a standard furnace, the filters will clog up quicker. Rather than the typical 90 days, they should be replaced monthly. Mine get changed when I remember, which is closer to every 3 months, but that's enough improvement in air quality for my needs. Need finer filtration, get a better quality furnace filter.

If that doesn't work for you, then this deal is a good option. Just seems like overkill for most people's needs, and a steep initial investment. Worst case you end up with a budget filter for a guest room, and buy this beast for your master.
It doesn't work that simply.

You need the air to be squeezed through. Air purifiers are designed with air pressure balance in mind. Anything drawn through the box fan is only a fraction of what is in the air. And only the closest segment of air.

Also that's a huge fire hazard.

I bought this one last year during the wildfire in CA paid $585. Everything was out of stock last year and we were glad to have it. Believe me I was ready to shell out any money for an air purifier that would arrive the fastest. We didn't have any air purifier in the house before. Just ordered a second one. It's been good so far, very quiet compared to others.

It's actually a great purifier. I have one and it works really quietly. I think it's one of the quietest ones out there. Would highly recommend it if you're looking for one that does a very large area. I have it in my living room that's an open concept to the dining room and kitchen.
Open concept or actually open?

An engineering professor at the University of Toronto says a box fan & furnace filter combo works great.

I can't seem to find the 400s on amazon. Anyone able to locate it? I do prefer to have all control since it allows for scheduling. I can turn it in turbo when we're not around and just have it on auto when we're home. I have one of these in a cat area and it works wonders when the filter is clean. I've had the same filter for a couple years now. Just ordered a new one the other day for $40 since the air was getting a bit stinky.

This model has a CADR (clean air delivery rate) of 350 CFM, which is good (though not as high as some).

According to the specs, it is very quiet at only 43 dB. Would be great for a classroom even running at high!

However, there are less expensive options out there for similar CFM. The Costco Winix models do ~240 CFM for $100 (on sale). The Honeywell HPA 300 does 300CFM for $210–$250. So buying 2 of those would outperform this, but would be louder.

I don't think an extra model number will do the trick. Consumer Reports seems to suggest that this brand isn't all it's cracked up to be.
I think that's an incorrect assumption to make as Coway Air Purifiers are usually rated very highly. Also, what Consumer Reports said was the 300 was not very effective at low speeds, at high speeds they said "Especially effective at removing dust, smoke, and pollen at its highest speed, important for quickly cleaning the air in the room." The low speed setting would be for someone who would want to use this unit in a bedroom (how many of us have a 1300 sq ft bedroom?).

So while your Blueair Pure 211+ may be better for a bedroom, this unit would be much better for larger spaces.

Which aftermarket brands are you using? I bought the name brand last time. I'd like a cheaper option.

The purifier works great for those debating. I have 3 cats and I can tell the difference when we aren't running it. Captures lots of hair etc.
