I've been looking for this 4k projector for a while. Lowest price I have seen. B&H shows it at this price but it is backordered. I ordered it yesterday from Office Depot and it shipped today.

It is real 4K. To achieve the brightness this projector uses a RGBWRGBW color wheel. The extra white make whites look brighter but colors less bright. I own a 747 which is 3500 lumens instead of 4000 and uses a RGBW color wheel. It has a great picture for movies and sports in regular mode but eco mode isn't that good IMO. I guess that doubling the RGBW on the 748 color wheel may have helped the picture quality. I chose the Viewsonic because the throw distance worked for my room where the projector is mounted on the back wall at about 15 feet..

It produces a 4k image via pixel shifting. Pixel shifting in general means that an image is accepted, and split into a number of lower resolution sub-images (for a 4k projector, this is usually four 1080P images). These four 1080P images are then projected offset a half pixel from one another to recreate a 4k image on the screen.

So the image projected is 4k, but not exactly the same 4k image as the input. You won't tell the difference from native 4k. You just won't.

Pixel shifting is used in 4k projectors less than $5000 today. Any product listing stating otherwise is lying by claiming "native 4k" when they really mean "native 4k input" -- which is what this projector has.

Still haven't found a pixel-shifting 4K projector which doesn't have a super annoying buzz above the fan sound.

I don't hear anything but fan on my Optoma UHD30, but I've read they've had issues requiring RMAs, and some people may be more sensitive than others.
