FX means full frame lens, covers the entire sensor on a full frame camera. This lens is FX. It'll work on a crop camera like D5300 it just uses the center of the lens, and the lens is much bigger and heavier than it needs to be for a crop camera.

So should I go with different lens if this is unnecessary heavy one 🤔?
I got a Nikon 70-300 AF-P DX factory refurb for $130, and it's amazingly sharp and fast focusing. The FX version is even better. The Tamron 100-400 has less competition and is still going for MSRP.
Nikon's own 70-200 f/4 is also getting a lot cheaper especially used so tough competition in this space.
Wats the PayPal offer ?
75 off 375. You have to log in to PP and activate it.
That AFP lens requires a firmware update on your D5300 also.
The Tamron is faster at f/4, so if you're shooting outdoor sports or something that'll help when the light gets poor, and it'll have a little more subject isolation which looks better.
Not any f/4 alternatives really so if you're shooting low light outdoor sports (and need a zoom rather than a prime) it's a good choice.

For mirrorless less of an issue. My EF glass works better adapted on my Sony bodies than it does on the DSLRs.
