Well, as jimx said above, the 70-300 AFP is about as good for a lot less (if you can find a Nikon refurb for $130). But it's getting hard to find that price now. I don't think I'd pay MSRP for it, or $250 for the refurb which is the price I see right now.

That AFP lens requires a firmware update on your D5300 also.

The Tamron is faster at f/4, so if you're shooting outdoor sports or something that'll help when the light gets poor, and it'll have a little more subject isolation which looks better.

Not any f/4 alternatives really so if you're shooting low light outdoor sports (and need a zoom rather than a prime) it's a good choice.

That's the issue with DSLRs, need to calibrate the lens to body in some instances.

For mirrorless less of an issue. My EF glass works better adapted on my Sony bodies than it does on the DSLRs.

Have you shot with the Canon 55-250? I have it on a Canon 60D and good gracious, what a fine lens and inexpensive too. I read the STM (newer version) may be slightly better. It's a must have lens for any Canon shooter and inexpensive too.

Just got the shipping notice. I had to cancel an earlier order to use the paypal offer and place a new one. For the second one it showed back ordered. I called them up and they happily applied the inventory from earlier order. Glad they could do it.
