But it's only 5900 rpm. Wouldn't I be loosing performance on 4 of these in RAID 10 vs 7200 ram drives?

Tempted, I'm running out of space on my 2 disk QNAP with two 3TB mirrored. Best to hold out for 6TB or 8TB in my case, but now I wish I paid extra for a 4 disk NAS minimum.

This was my original thought but after research, a NAS that is on 24/7 generates more heat and wear/tear if 7200rpm. Performance is gained through raid config

Synology tested:

I have these exact same drives and my Synology NAS claims they are not approved. They still work, but I still replicate elsewhere.

I use these and red plus for my synology nas. There are iron drive test besides SMART test. They are synology approved.

Synology is trying to scare you towards purchasing their branded drives, RAMs for higher prices. Marketing strategies.

Most say WD, but I would go whichever is cheaper. It's always YMMV

Not sure why the downvote for a question that I'm sure many have.

I worked in IT during the Seagate .11 and .12 drive disasters, with 30+% failure rates across thousands of systems. So I am no seagate lover, and it's taken years of improved drives for me to be willing to consider them again. Reds have has their share of issue as well, many of which because of business decisions by WD.

If I were buying today I'd lean seagate, but you really can't go wrong (statistically, at least) with either choice.

Would these be a good replacement for old WD Red's 3TB bought in or around 2012? Not being Western Digital I mean Smilie

PS $15 still working
