This is as cheap as it gets. I own a couple of these, and lectrofan electric ones. Here's what always comes up in these threads:

- The ones with fans, like this, make a more "soothing" noise in many people's opinion, but it's not as loud or customizable as the electric ones. But they're very good and many prefer them.
- The quality has gone downhill in recent years, sometimes the fan bearings make weird sounds or don't last as long.
- The electric ones are also really good, have a larger variety of sounds, and can be made louder or more quiet than the fan units. I prefer electric personally. They're on sale for about $35 sometimes.
- Yeah you can use a free app or Alexa or whatever for "white noise" but they tend to loop a sound, which makes a noticeable blip when it gets to the end and restarts, and can interrupt your sleep. These machines won't do that.

Long story short you'll probably be happy with this or an electric, they're both good. And again, this is as cheap as it gets for this model.
WD-40 is a poor lubricant. I recommend white lithium grease.
WD-40 is a penetrating oil and corrosion preventative. As a lubricant, it is quite short term as it tends to evaporate. Additionally, WD-40 will damage some types of plastics over time.

I would suggest using sewing machine oil or turbine oil instead.

I was just about to post this deal. You rarely see these at this price. I just purchased one to replace one that I've owned for years. The fan in my existing one started making odd noises, probably due to a couple of drops over the years. I tried to disassemble it, to no avail..

I own two of them. It seems like every year or so (daily use) they need some WD-40 near the moving parts. Easy disassembly, just Google it.

I love these but unfortunately marpac changed the build a few years ago. The older format was perfect but these new "classic" aren't as loud. I even tried opening one up and bending the fins a little more. Just didn't cut it.

I usually agree but I've seen some instances where dust and grime buildup happens with white lithium grease versus WD-40. It depends on the situation and how often you want to disassemble stuff but in this instance, unless your space is unusually dusty, white lithium should last longer.

I've owned two Lectrofans and they both worked well for improving sleep quality. Admittedly the first Lectrofan I had started glitching out randomly, but their customer service was excellent to me and sent me a new one without sending the broken one back. I eventually bought the new model (purely for aesthetics) and handed my old one down to my brother who says it has helped him as well. I also still have the "glitchy" one just in case I decide to open it up for fun.

The original and the best. Mine has spun 24x7 for over 10 years and there is no stopping it. Love this thing.

How is putting a fan (i.e. a moving part) in there add any benefit as opposed to putting a speaker? Now it's less reliable and less versatile.

We use a real fan in the bedroom, and this for travel. Fits great in suitcase, and is a must have for fan users on the road...
