With plexpass hardware transcoding, this uses Intel QuickSync and can handle 22+ 1080 transcodes without issue.

I use an old Celeron with Quicksync. I've personally hit 22 1080p at once. I don't transcode 4k so couldn't give you an estimate there.

It's amazing how many people don't realize this and frequently recommend adding GPUs for Plex. That's not needed and purely a waste of money. Even the Plex subreddit has hoards of individuals frequently recommending a GPU for Plex. Feel free... but it's a waste of money.

edit: Use Linux in this use case to avoid any headaches. I recommend Ubuntu

I picked up two yesterday. No issues. Store had about 14 of them. Works great as entry level for my kids. They can play basic computer games like Roblox and Minecraft on it.

transcoding is when your movie file and the output is different (like if you had a 1080p movie but you're forcing it to play 720p on an iphone). your computer needs to do work to do that, unlike playing directly (like just playing a movie file on your computer).

there's software and hardware transcoding (usually means software = cpu; hardware = gpu). intel cpus (coffee lake and later, non -F skus) have integrated graphics with quicksync feature that is very capable of heavy duty transcoding. earlier gens have quicksync as well, but there was a big improvement starting with coffee lake, i believe.

there's always a bigger nerd who knows way more about this stuff than i do, so i welcome any corrections/additions.

I don't think people realize that a 10th generation i3 is LEAPS better than the ones years before it. I upgraded my friend's computer from a i5 2500k to a 10100f and it's about 2 times faster and cooler.

The Ryzen one has an INFERIOR processor and no monitor. This deal is far better than the Ryzen deal. However, obviously it is out of stock.

Went to 2 locations in Central Jersey.
Brickseek was incorrect. I found none.
One location had the display model only.
The other location had the price tag on the shelf, but even the display model was missing. Haha. Bust.

Based on this, there are 310, 400 and 500 Watt proprietary PSUs that could go in this if you can get a hold of one. I would like to do that and stick a GTX 970 in.

From looking around on the HP Parts website [hp.com] it looks like they want to sell the 180W PSU for $320.
