Get it at the sale price directly from Facebook! Ordered Portal Plus from Amazon when it was $99 and installed it at my parents. Pleasantly surprised! Audio is great, screen quality too. Zoom and Messenger video was a great experience and web browsing and Spotify setup too. Bought another 3, one for myself and gifting two to my kids Montessori school for zoom calls. I distrust Facebook like everyone else and actually stopped using Social media, but this is a great hardware device.

This video is a great example for my use case:

Thanks. I wanted to get this as a dedicated Zoom machine when I saw the other posts from Amazon and Target and glad it was available. Specs look good with a large 15.6" Full HD screen, ample speakers, looks like it supports HDMI out now via USB-C port, high megapixel camera with cropped AI driven video like the newer Echo Shows. It's the giant screen and price that make it worthwhile, while also function as an Alexa device (probably not as good as an a actual Echo though).

Sure, it looks like I've been shilling here about almost 5 years longer than you.

This has a 15.6 inch screen, that rotates portrait and landscape. With higher quality smart speaker capabilities and a camera large 13MP camera designed for video calls. It runs Android (though not sure about it's hackability). It costs $100. I'm already in the Facebook hardware family with my Oculus. As a piece of tech, even with a single use as a fancy Zoom device for kids, it's only $100.. I spent like $60 on a webcam alone a month ago.

And just to repeat..15.6 inch screen. My other smart screens are 7 and 8. My tablets are 10. My laptops are 13 and 14. This is 15.6" FullHD with ambient color changing display (like AmbientEQ or True Tone).

Edit: sorry folks, I am incorrect about the color changing display, I thought I saw it in the specs or a review, but I can't find it anymore. Also note this device was originally released end of 2018, so is a 3 year old device.

Yeah those are my same sentiments - almost the same price as a webcam and used for VC . Like I said above, I stopped using social media and I don't like Facebook and only use messenger to keep up with friends/family and my mom was able to make phone calls pretty easily. I used to have one of those Skype tv things, well bought it for my in-laws and this is way easier to use. Surprisingly bluejeans and webex is available too. Another surprising part was the sound quality, better than the Google home (and to be clear I actually worked on that so I should have bias there) and my echo show 10 v2.

If there was a way to gut the FB stuff out of it, I'd consider it. But I don't allow FB in the house. I block it at the router via my Pihole... seems like a fair price for what it is though.

I have one for work (work from home) and the video conferencing experience is top notch. Good mic pick up, good enough speakers, no feedback, face tracking camera, mostly good lighting correction… runs zoom and BlueJeans…. I'm glad I grabbed one.

Also, the screen is huge, it's basically a second monitor if you are on video calls a lot. Take it or leave it, but it is probably my second favorite purchase for work after my white board.

Is it better to buy this or the portal tv which is around the same price? I understand this gets an additional display can can be used standalone but looks a little bulkier compared to portal tv. Can someone who has hands on experience pitch in their thoughts?

I bought this for $99 few days ago. When the shipment arrived, its big.
While opening the box itself,i thought i will be returning it.

So far,I'm impressed with what this $99 can do.I was in market for a daily light use general laptop and i plan to skip buying it.I understand this doesnt have portability but serves what i need for 99

Pros: Camera, speakers,Browser(google and fb partnered almost like chrome) ,Meeting apps, whats app video calls, screen rotation, add bluetooth mouse and keyboard, big screen.hdmi out to tv using usb-c
Cons:Lack of apps like netflix, amazon prime, Bulky ,Needs to be plugged in always
