advantage of this HP over the lenovo
1. This HP has usb-c with DP and PD, meaning you can actually use a dock to both power the laptop as well as having 4K60hz output over the usb-c. The lenovo usb-c has neither DP or PD function
2. This HP has HDMI 2.0. The lenovo only have hdmi 1.4 meaning that lenovo has no way to output 4K60hz at all while with the HP you can actually connect two external 4K screens and run both at 60hz. If you are the type that want a laptop that can run multiple external screen, the HP beats the lenovo by a mile
3. This HP has dual ram slots meaning you will be able to upgrade all the way to 64GB ram and run them in dual channel. The lenovo has a built in 4GB soldered ram with 1 ram slot (hence it has a weird 12GB ram configuration with the costco model because that one ram slot has an 8GB module). So with the lenovo you are limited to 40GB ram and its not dual channel.

advantage of the lenovo:
1. Slightly bigger battery
2. Slightly brighter screen
3. Black color keyboard is better with white backlit and visibility compared to the HP silver keys not as well visible with the backlit.
Not sure if anybody has already answered this but this deal is better than the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 deal you're referring. IdeaPad 3 15 is equivalent to HP 15 and lowest tier in their main line of consumer laptops. It has 4GB soldered ram and only one upgradable ram slot, only HDMI 1.4 port and the Type-C port is a 5Gbps data port, not supporting display out and charging.
This Pavilion 15 has two ram slots, supporting 64GB of memory (32GB is the max HP sells this model with, not maximum supported), hdmi 2.0 port and fully featured Type-C port, supporting 10 Gbps data, display port 1.4 (4k at 120 Hz) and power delivery charging which can be used to charge the device with any 45W+ PD charger.
Why does HP keep releasing these decent laptops with a 250nits screen?

Nice specs but 250nits is a deal breaker for me.

Shit, out of stock
Indeed, was out of stock on Thursday, but back in stock by Thursday nite. I ordered today! Crappy Paypal would not give me their virtual credit cards yet, so I did not get 5% CB on Discover. Had to live with 2% on Costco CITI.

What I believe is happening is that they are clearing out Ryzen 7 5700U stock, thus the good discount. They even had it in the budget to stick 16GB RAM, not 12Gb like a bunch of other Costco deals (LOL).

Next level up are either 2-in-1 flippable semi-business laptops (way cheaper to load up on Fire HD 10 tablets for simple tablet reading). A pricier consumer alternative are gaming laptops, but they are heavy/bulky as hell.

Anyway, unless there is a massive drop in chip prices, this should mostly match the upcoming BF deals, which would have newer but less speedy chips (the 2021 gen).

Why can't they have 14" with similar specs in this price range?

In the end, I'm glad I didn't buy it. I needed a gaming laptop for D2R. I ended up ordering the below for ~$775 (assuming cash back site and chase cash back work)

It's quite a bit heavier and hotter. Also, less RAM/SSD. Good for games, bad for office work. Depends on what you need!

My primary purpose is to play D2R. I already ordered a 32GB kit for ram upgrade. will sell the OEM dell for about half the cost of the upgrade. I hope.

Does this have pen support? Any good deals that includes pen support?
I'm wondering the exact same thing. I haven't seen an answer on my searches online yet.

I needed a new laptop to replace my 8 year old one and was watching this laptop on HP's back to school sale, which was $120 higher. I jumped on this one first day and have no regrets at all! I even threw Control and Guild Wars 2 on it to see how well they'd play. They both ran smooth on medium settings. The full size backlit keyboard is great to type on and the touchpad is nice and smooth. And I still have touchscreen capability, which I had on my previous. The screen is bright enough if not being used outside. It wasn't meant to be a gaming laptop, but the fact it plays them decently is an added bonus at this price!

Edit: For those looking for a teardown, this laptop is it - https://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/H...own/126179

Looks like there's a hard drive space. Will require a cable and bracket.

The teardown is not applicable - an older model! This laptop really has just 1 m.2 slot, and nothing else.

You can easily clone drives if you know you interfaces, and MBR/GPT difference.

I got this today.

It completely crashed on bootup. No trackpad. no wifi card. Would not boot after restart.

Installed Windows LTSC from USB and connected usb-c internet and rebuilt the system.

Thanks HP!

After installing latest AMD video drivers, 50,000 Octane.

Got to testing mine today. Looks like a bit of bottom of the barrel SSD Smilie But well matched overall, should work OK nonetheless.

I got one of this (eh1075cl with 5700u). Dmidecode -t 16 (Linux command) shows maximum memory capacity as 32GB. Could anyone confirm if 64gb works on this laptop and if it works could you please confirm the dmidecode output for Maximum capacity.

I run a multiple VMs for development/testing and prefer to upgrade to 64GB rather than 32GB if it would work. Thanks.

Costco offers for its members only the HP 15.6" Pavilion Touchscreen Laptop - AMD Ryzen 7 5700U - 1080p [costco.com] (model 15-eh1075cl) on sale for $599.99 (regularly $799.99). Shipping and handling is $9.99. $200 manufacturer's savings is valid 8/28/21 through 9/21/21. While supplies last. Limit 2 per member.
This laptop re-surfaced at Costco again as 15-eh1085cl (vs 15-eh1075cl in September). The only difference is Windows 11 now vs Windows 10 before:
https://www.costco.com/hp-pavilion-15.6%22-touchscreen-laptop---amd-ryzen-7-5700u---1080p---windows-11.product.100804299.html

Looks like it will be $699 during the BF. The prior deal could be had for $560 = $610-$50 online coupon. It seems they were clearing Windows 10 stock back then, but no such luck now ...
