I thought it was just for finding things within your vicinity, like a lost key
Answering my own question:
- per search of Amazon Q&A and Reviews on a tile product page
- tiles should not be used for tracking people, it wasn't designed for that
- it doesn't use GPS
- it uses bluetooth, relying on the "Tile network", i.e. other people must be using Tile, which may help find a cheating spouse
