I'll just say mesquite has a tangy flavor stay away. I'll suggest hickory. I haven't cooked with fruit wood. I even know a chef that uses pecan shells with his smoking.

The Costco deal for $14.99 is happening now - guessing it's because of Labor Day but I can confirm as I picked up several bags Friday

The 20 lb two pack sounds well worth it. The Costco Kingsford burns out so quick during smokes, and the briquettes literally feel lighter in weight than the normal Kingsford.
