Stage 4 kidney disease no OT

54,923 18,869 August 29, 2021 at 08:45 PM
I have stage 4 kidney disease. It was a surprise...but not really. I have been stage 3 for a long time, and ignored all of the warning signs like a dummy just thinking it would go away or get better. Nope laugh out loud

I was hospitalized for 4 days recently and I guess damn near died at some point. A lot of it is a blur. I don't even really remember much about how I got there, just waking up and being really confused. It was awful.

I'm home now and feel.....fine? I guess "lived with stage three for years and never really thought about it" level of fine anyway. That is to say: itchy, twitchty, foggy headed and all of the other goofy stuff that comes with KD that you sort of get used to.

So. Stage three to stage 4/5 borderline, 4 days in hospital, pushed back to stage 4, which is where I am now. I am supposed to get my blood checked monthly and visit a specialist monthly.

But. I don't want to do it. I don't want a transplant or Dialysis if it comes to those things. I'm almost 50. Give a healthy kidney to a young person that needs it.

This post is rambeling as all and probably makes no sense. I am just trying to sort my thoughts.

Anyway. Sorry for the no OT thing. I am hoping to get feedback from any other loungers who have kidney disease of any stage, and if you have later stage, how you have been coping with it.

thanks for reading :hug

Edit: a beautiful SD friend Pm'd this to me, and I am adding it in on 10/26

Finzz, you're quite young. Depending on what your diagnosis is, your kidney function could improve and you can go ahead and live your life for years to come with minor modifications. It's really important to be careful about your blood pressure and blood sugar, and avoid NSAIDS. I really hope you'll consider working with the nephrologist and get things on a good trajectory, because I'm selfish and I wanna have you around for a long, long time. The monthly follow up will only be for a while till everything gets back on track. You should start feeling better as your BUN starts coming down.

Spending as much time as I have around 60-70 year olds over the last decade, I really don't think 50 is that old! You seem like a very kind person, I know that news must have been hard to receive, but it's way too early to throw in the towel nod

Hey sweetie…I'm Stage 3a CKD, I only have one kidney now, been this way for 35 years.
Protein, phosphorus, sodium and potassium are the things you need to key in on and watch your intake; as you watch your blood work numbers.
Yes, it's a pita to adjust ones life yo this. I'm 65, been living with this over my head since I was 30. I think you know the story of this. I've survived so far, even with tumors on my remaining kidney.
You're young in comparison to me 😊
You can better your health by making changes to your diet. Tonight I bought my husband fried chicken for dinner. I'm not eating that lol. I have a very well made salad, that I will eat. No salt, extremely limited, if any dressing. I'll use herbs on it or a no salt seasoning. The thing I'm not happy about, is tomato's aren't on the list of "good foods". I love tomatoes 🍅 a good ripe Jersey tomato. Alas, they are off my plate. Blue berries on the other hand, are plentiful right now, good for me, and a allowed food.

Think about it as a food game in the beginning. See what you like, that you are able to eat on Fb, there is a group for recipes. Join it, just go thru the files, read. You don't have to post, I haven't yet 😊

I'm here if you want to talk…Angels among us…

NSAIDS are the worst for anyone with CKD. Phosphorus, Potassium, Protein and Sodium are the main things to watch in ones diet. Dark sodas are not good. White bread is better than wheat. White rice is better than brown. There is a entire listing of foods to avoid and great foods to eat. No Oranges or orange juice. Yet pineapple and pineapple juice is great for you.

Crying Finnzy, we DO NOT want you to give up / give in. We NEED you here, but moreso, we absolutely LOVE YOU HERE.

This old frogge turned 63 a few weeks ago. When I was a kid, folks in their 60s were retired, and hoping for a few more years of life. Today, 60s are pretty much like the 40s were in my youth. We've got another good 15 to 20+ years ahead of us, at a minimum.

What I mean to say is, [B]you[ /B]have a LOT of life yet to live. nod
Don't throw in the towel far too soon. shake head
Please? Please

IANYD - But my suggestion is that you get a new puppy. Or maybe two new puppies. And then after they crap all over your carpet. Give them a hug and promise them that you will grow old together. And you will do your dialysis or whatever the doctor orders.
