For Target you only need to scan the coupon code to add it to Target Circle offers. You don't actually need to trade anything in. There a box at the front with a QR code and no one is there to check anything. At least, that's how it worked the last few times.
Agreed - This is exactly how it was last time Target ran this promotion a few months ago. Just scan the QR code and it adds a 20% off coupon in the Target Circle app.

Is this an actual deal or does Target raise the price of all their car seats by 20% before this deal goes live?

If you need a new seat right now, it's a deal. If you don't, you can probably get a slightly better deal on a sale in the next couple months. That was my experience anyway.

I dropped my old ones off anyway since Target says they'll be responsibly recycled.

Anyone know when the Walmart one is happening? They straight up give you gc rather than a coupon. They had one last year and it was a success
Quote from coolcoder :
How does that work? I.e., they give you a GC based on what amout?

They did that ONE time. Then quickly realized what a cluster fark it was for them and ended it early. It has not reappeared and I don't think it will.

Who knows. They can't be reused/resold, so they're basically trash. Most carseats, besides the metal, foam and belting are HDPE (same resin as milk jugs) so they could be recycled after a lot of disassembly and grinding. There would be a lot of manual labor in that though.

I can't seem to find a source that actually follows the waste stream though.

They usually give you a few weeks to redeem. Last spring you could use the coupon twice per account.

Same here. I like how they say on their site that they've recycled 22 million pounds of car seats though. That's a lot of waste.

Unless there is a new baby on the way there is no reason to update your car seat

Or unless you need to buy a 5 point or booster as the kid grows. Kids will generally be in 3 different seats from birth to ~ 8 or 9.

More curious what happens to the physical car seat. I think I have 6 of them in my garage for a few years now and haven't done anything with them because I hate to just have them go in the trash. I understand the business aspect of getting customers to give them "garbage" in exchange for a coupon.

We have 3 kids and I think I've purchased 10 car seats. Maybe more. I just purchased 2 no-back booster seats last month to add to the pile.
