Repeating: I have many many transactions from my original post directly from the Vudu website with absolutely no problems.
It is interesting especially because the email with the digital card info had instructions to redeem on fandangonow.com.
I called VUDU/Fandango and was told this case has been escalated and I will hear back within 5-12 days. Defeats the purpose for a quick purchase to buy digital movies before my flight today.
The Vudu CSR's insist that notwithstanding the public announcements Fandango and Vudu are not merged. The automated CS system says otherwise. But assuming this is true, then it would seem that Fandango is attempted to get a last influx of cash by tricking people into purchasing gift cards that cannot be used on FandangoNow/Vudu. That would be fraud.
I haven't tried going directly to Vudu's website and purchasing a card there, but that is probably the way to do it. In short, do not purchase a Fandango gift card.
I must be in double digits of buying these cards from the Vudu site over the past few months with no complaints.
