Can someone comment on if this is a good laptop for a computer science student? Seems good, but honestly have no clue.
I have the same model without the touch screen. Bought it last year and upped the ram to 32gb. It's fast and I have every database you can think of running plus Python, visual studio and other tools. It's gets warm when running a lot at the same time. But normally it's fine. Battery lasts a good time under normal use too.

I have the same laptop (5515) with the 5500U processor. Nice sharp screen with good viewing angles and acceptable colors. Nowhere as punchy as my Legion with its far superior color gamut but this Dell is as powerful as it gets that still can run off a 65w PD power bank. Great for actual work on the go. Charge it thru the type C port with a 65w PD brick or use the traditional Dell barrel power plug. I mostly use the barrel power because the type C port on this thing has display port alt and you could hook up a portable monitor easily.

I have an unreleased review video in draft covering everything about this. I had the 8GB/256 model. Performance is pretty mixed, but the iGPU is enough for esports. DRAFT - Dell 5515 Review Sample - Editor Divan https://youtu.be/LtOrVx0XW9I

Thanks for sharing your draft review. One question - you say 330 nits in the review, but post mentions 250 nits. Which is It? TIA

This is a valid objection for many users. I would much rather downgrade the CPU to a 5500U to get a brighter and better color LCD instead.

I got both this and the IdeaPad 5 15.6-inch, which was a bit cheaper due to various discounts. Very similar specs, main difference is that RAM is non-upgradable on the IdeaPad, although at 16GB it won't matter for 99% of users; the IdeaPad has a bit brighter screen (also matte touch). Either is a good choice, but I'm keeping the IdeaPad for overall better build quality - metal all around.

I've been looking at both as well - just to confirm we're talking about the same IP5 - do you have a link to it? And thanks for the feedback!

In case anyone is interested I have done EXTENSIVE video reviews and benchmarks on this laptop:

I like it a lot. My only complaint is that you can depress the mouse button from the underside of the laptop in certain circumstances.

I think you can use code "save12" and get 12% off. Better than the 50 bucks off.
