Going to be real with you peeps. Don't expect much from upright carpet cleaners. They don't suck out all or even much of the dirty water. Unless you're going to pay for a current Bissell Big Green Machine, which I'm not sure how well it works since you can't see it sucking the water... You'll need a style that you can use your weight to force as close as possible with the carpet. They're the canister style, with the long hose. They're not really made anymore by the major brands since they market the upright instead. You'd likely have to find a commerical brand. I've used the older style Big Green Machine 1672 series for almost 2 decades now. I tried 2 different uprights within this year and they just didn't compare in cleaning quality.

I have the powerdash and it's perfect size for my few area rugs and pet soil. Not sure what the person above me is talking about but it works exactly how I expect a sub $100 machine to work. It's damn sure better than getting on your hands and knees and sopping up a mess. The water doesn't go through the carpet so if the machine isn't sucking it up I don't know where it's going.

Have the Power Dash. Love the size, but the on/off switch broke within 4 months so only way to operate it was to put it permanently in the on position. Could use a little more weight on the front of it to suck up the water, otherwise it doesn't get deep enough.

THIS! I have had several carpet cleaners over the years that are upright and agree 100% with you. They simply don't compare to the style that has the canister in the long wand that sucks up pretty well. That's why you only see them being used with professional carpet cleaning companies. I would love to find one at a decent price but have been unsuccessful so far. For the time being I have simply grabbed a brick or two and tied with bungee straps onto the front of my upright power washer to put weight on it.

You are right. The problem is that people like that ("I've used the older style Big Green Machine 1672 series for almost 2 decades now") are comparing old vs new. They haven't tried the new ones being discussed. They are generalizing about about the yon times of yore. Sure the HEAVY DUTY commercial units are "better", but it doesn't mean that some of the uprights are not quite sufficient for the job. Part of the successful use of them depends on not putting down too much solution and oversaturating the carpets. You don't always have to bring a gun to a knife fight.

I have gone thru several of these and currently have the Pro Clean Pet. I plan on returning it solely for the lack of quality; such as the waste tank lid doesn't sit flush and leaks vacuum around the seal. The cleaning is OK when basically using it as a wet vac; I clean rugs outside and often presoak then use the vac to scrub and evac the water. It works well in that fashion. Using in its intended fashion it does a poor job of cleaning, as a 5x8 rug requires 6 waste-tanks full to get the rug to look clean. I would be weary of using this on carpet with padding underneath as sometimes it just starts leaking puddles of water. Overall it's built with low quality plastics with poor molds like a disposable vacuum. Get what you pay for?

I have the elite, got from home Depot for $150. It's great. Everyone with capets should buy these.

Okay, there are people who needs light cleaning for everyday use. This should suffice for most of the people. I clean my carpet every 2 weeks and this is perfect for that.

I literally said I've used the new ones. That's the part you refused to quote.

The Elite version says something Quick Clean option for which drys in 45 min. Any idea how long the Deluxe version (which has a higher base price) quick clean takes to dry?
