I've owned the Philips SHP9500, was also my first open back before I went further down the rabbit hole. I own both these H6XX and Beyerdynamic DT 1990 Pro. The H6XX would be an upgrade in every way from the Philips, imho.

To me the Beyerdynamic are the best and personally my "endgame" headphone, they are normally $599 I got them recently at Newegg for $459. Of course there are more, Focal Clear ($1000) Seinheiser 800s, and on it goes.

Remember, sound is always subjective and what one person says or likes another may not. That said, the HD6XX is very highly regarded as one of if not the best bang for the buck at $200. Give them a try, I bet you don't regret it.

These are the best headphones I've ever used. Very comfortable, natural sound.

I still buy headphones from time to time to see what I'm missing, but always end up returning them.

Seeming more and more unlikely that we'll see the $160 + ear pads deal again, huh?

How this type headband fit larger/wider head? The return policy on Drop seems a little bit confusing. Can I try on and return if not fit?

You're stuck in the Zreviews comment section from 3 years ago pal. That circlejerk has been defunct since then. Watch the tear down videos.

The 6xx DOES NOT have 650 drivers nor does it have 600 drivers or 660s drivers.
Sure, bud. Sennheiser must be lying, since they, themselves have stated they are the same headphones with a different finish. Nevermind the fact they have nothing to gain by selling the same headphones for less by lying about it. Sennheiser has changed manufacturing and factories over the years. There are plenty of posts in the forums of different looking drivers in the HD650, depending on when/where they were made. There are also plenty of people who have gotten replacement drivers directly from Sennheiser for their HD650 that look completely different, yet they sound the same. Both headphones measure the same, at least within a variance of manufacturing. I imagine you're stuck in the circle jerk of that one and only YouTuber that has tried to argue they were different, because he compared and measured his HD650 with well worn, flattened pads against a new HD6XX.

You're dead wrong. The 58X and 600 are similar only in form factor. Please elaborate on how the newer generation 150 ohm drivers in the 58X are the same as the older 300 ohm drivers in the 600. The 58X is more closely related to the 660.
Must've gotten mixed up on the 58x. The 6xx ARE the same as the 650, though. Sennheiser have stated so themselves.

lol they are literally the same headphones with a different paint job. either way the cookie crumbles, the 6xx's at the price point cant be beat. i probably paid $300 for my 650's (before the 6xx's came out), $250 on hd 600's, and $200 on hd598's. at this price point, the 6xx cant be beat, so even if it turns out they have slightly different drivers, I would regardless highly recommend these phones. for sub $200 bucks, cant be beat

How are these compared to HD600 for 289?

SOUND DEMO

6XX vs 600 vs 58x

listen for yourself 😎

This is probably the best video on this topic with FR comparisons, sound demo comparisons, etc.

Best to listen with a "neutralish" headphone.

For me , the 600 is all the difference. Although they are pretty similar. I listened to the 6XX once and didn't like the mid bass hump.

This is where subjectivity plays a role.

These are an HD650 with a different paint job. The HD58X are the HD600 with a different paint job. The HD650 (the same as OP) are a little warmer with better imaging than the HD600. The HD6XX/HD650 are preferred over HD58X/HD600 by most I've asked, including me. These are probably the least fatiguing headphones on the market. Or at least anywhere near this price range. Not to mention the HD650 are a more expensive headphone than the HD600. This is a better headphone for cheaper. I'd say definitely get these.

Must've gotten mixed up on the HD58X, as someone has pointed out. Apologies. These HD6XX are the HD650 with a different finish, as stated by Sennheiser, and are a fantastic value, even at full price.
The 58x mixup is common and something I mixed up as well.

It probably stems from the misleading naming convention. The "58x jubilee" sounds like "580 jubilee".

Although they named it 58x jubilee, it uses different drivers and has a completely different tuning vs the original 580 jubilee.

The 580/580jubilee does sound very, very similar to the hd600 as they use the same drivers.

BTW, You can run this off your phone. No amp needed.

300 ohm but 103db sensitivity.

Audiophiles shoot me 😎😜 for speaking such heresy.

Just to clarify, the 6xx does scale with amps like a dark voice.

If you're an audiophile, you probably want one but if you aren't an audiophile, you don't absolutely NEED one.

It will still sound very good.

Anyone know how these might compare to audio Technica open backs? In terms of soundstage and comfort?

I've had the HD600 for 20+ years. I got the 58x Jubilee a year or so ago for $120 and I couldn't exactly understand where the difference was to the HD600 when I was putting them on randomly (not back to back), maybe a little bit more bass that's it. I gifted them away, I didn't need 2 pairs of hp.

I wouldn't hesitate buying the 6xx, especially for the price. If I were to buy a new pair of Sennheihser I'd go for whatver's cheaper at the time 58x, 6xx or any 600/650, particular model being completely irrelevant.

audiosciencereview did a few very technical reviews of Sennheiser HD600/650 series and 58x and conclusions seem to be that differences are hair splitting.

I also have the AT MH50x, now that is hot garbage for $150. Any of Sennheisers are in a different universe.

TU for this deal.

Sigh. Now you reminded me how I bought the RS 185 ones and was excited about trying good quality open back ones and then they went up so much in value I couldn't resist selling them instead... so never got to try them and now nobody has any one bay.
I had a pair collecting dust and finally started using these in my HT when quarantine hit - they are absolutely incredible, but I also got a second pair of 175s that my wife uses and they are solid too. I would recommend picking up a 175 set then watching ebay for an HDR 185 replacement headset (175 uses the same or very similar base). I have both stereo and optical (SPDIF extracted from all my hdmi sources) going into this and use it more than any of my other headphones- using a 6xx for music.

Make sense. I will try both and decide. Thanks all.
