Slickdeals…. Where people see a budget laptop at a budget price then complain that it's not premium components at that same budget price. There's a reason Walmart is a huge retailer folks. People need budget items.

For the price, this is a good solution for a family looking for a gaming laptop for their kids. Depending on what you play, it could be all you need. Lots of kids spend most of their gaming time in Minecraft and Roblox. Spending double this price for a laptop for those games is just not worth it for some folks.
Actually the display
Someone is gonna complain about the video card in 3...2...1....

Yes, I upgraded a 5510 to 32 GB. It also has a second nvme slot
What kit did you buy for the ram? I think just upgrading to 16 would be enough for my kid (like one of the other reviewers mentioned, mostly robox/minecraft/sims type of stuff), but am looking at options.

Bought this yesterday used the Amex
My 12yr old wants it for Minecraft and Roblox so no stretch I'll add another 8gb ram as some of his mates play Halo /COD so that's next I suppose so by the time he gets good enough it will be upgrade time any way

Picked this up today with the Amex deal - ~680 total once that credit hits (if I did it correctly) -- mostly for my kids to do Minecraft and I still at some Battlefield 4 now and then. That, plus see online learning, coding and maybe some Fusion 360 -- I think this should be good.

Plus, if I'm understanding this correctly, I can pop this into the USB-C dock I have for work and use my monitors, keyboard, mouse, etc....

Bad deal. I'd wait for the 3080 to be around the $750 price point tbh.

Yes of course. What year do you think this is?
When I was shopping ThinkPad last year, the main line didn't allow upgrades, which surprised me. Surprisingly, the e version did allow upgrades, and I bought it.

It's a fair and important question.

Actually that's true in certain degree, because the way M1 SOC has been created. Here the ram is directly integrated inside the SOC package as a separe chiplet and the latency of Ram access and Ram to SSD access are very low. On top of that, Mac OS is tailor made for that SOC will full knowledge of the chip's internals and the memory management is extremely optimised.
Before you guys brand me as a Apple fanboy, let me clarify, I've never owned a Mac in my whole life. But I did read some of the architecture details and saw some of the leaked memory management behaviours.
No. I have one. I do fill the RAM at times and the… thing… runs… so… slowly… a larger penalty imo than past Macs when they've entered swapland.

Drives me crazy that Apple doesn't give you a slot to upgrade. Would extend the life of Macs significantly.

With the poor supplies, I think you would wait a couple of years to buy used before that happens.

At Dell it'll be under upgrading the product and at a major memory supplier it will have a lookup tool to identity which memory to buy. Or you can just google the spec of the memory and search in shopping.

Huh? Mine charged yesterday when I placed the order and Amex notified me that I used the deal. Supposed to arrive next Thursday anyway so non issue for this deal.

Would this be a regrettable choice use with an Oculus Rift? Presently, I've got a desktop 1070 TI but am looking for a bit of portability. This doesn't seem to be an upgrade per se, but I'm having trouble finding what the impact of the 4gb VRAM will really be in this scenario.
