heres little ol me remembering a 740m was decent enough to run shogun 2 at medium 720p. Then a 960m was pretty decent for most games before 2015.

Regarding the TGP of the GPU, this is one of the lowest power variant of RTX 3050 Ti, similar you see in Thin & Light Productivity Laptops like Dell XPS series. This has a fixed TGP of 45W and it can go up to 60W with Dynamic Boost, which is extremely low compared to the 80W + up to 95W configuration possible for RTX 3050 and 3050 ti. Even Dell's budget G15 series comes with 80W + 15W RTX 3050/ti.
For comparison purpose, the super small and light weight Asus Zephyrus G14 comes with a 60W TGP GPU + up to 20W using Dynamic Boost. In other word, the RTX 3050 Ti in G14 should be performing better than this 15.6" Laptop. $900 is too much of a asking price. If I need something cheap, then Dell G15, Asus TUF A and F series (AMD and Intel respectively) and Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 2021 are better option.

I really like the sword edition but this model really needs an rtx 3060 for it to make sense.

That's weird. I've seen reviews where these don't run hot and the cooling is really impressive.
