Libby is nice, I agree. But sometimes it's also nice to listen to books whenever you want and for as long as you want. I find it helpful to use Libby for older titles that may be in lower demand and Audible for those harder to get books.
Is Audible overpriced? Perhaps, I guess, if you're comparing it to "free" by means of your library. But it still ends up being ~10 bucks for ~15 hours of entertainment, so some people such as myself may find it worth it. And thanks to deals like this one, it certainly makes membership an easier pill to swallow.
Audible is also free with certain Amex cards
it's not necessary to keep a membership at all times, let it go for a year or 2 and come back when you feel like it. I have been a member off and on for 15 years or more and I can honestly say after all the free trials and BOGO or BOG2 deals over the years my average cost per book is probably under $3 each. I currently have 235 titles. My first yearly membership was on sale for $69 back in the day. I also pay for Spotify even though I can listen to the radio any time I want for free. Sometimes it's just a matter of preference.
I rarely get the audiobooks I want to read when I want to read them through Libby. Latest book I tried to add is 40 week wait time on the holds. I only listen to audiobooks in my free time or when I'm doing yard work and wearing headphones which varies greatly from week to week and I often don't have time to finish books from Libby before they go back.
Watching the sales you can get so many good deals on books through Audible, own them forever, and I hope the author gets to see some of that money. I'm happy to spend a few bucks for the benefit of owning it and hopefully supporting the author.
