Looked into it:
-shuckable
-will break many of the tabs while opening the enclosure
-drives vary, recent reviews make it look like CMR 10tb ironwolf's are being used
-noisy little bugger when writing to it
-mixed reviews on amazon

Not really. Drive prices are supposed to come down over time.. but in recent years, HD prices have mostly stayed "stuck" in a range.. and just recently, prices have been driven up due to various factors. It just shows you can't predict what the future brings.

Fortunately, I have enough storage space available to wait until prices come back down.

I keep hearing that this is due to supply chain issues all over the world due to COVID shutdowns. Electronics parts issues are impacting all industries (read yesterday that GM shut down a number of plants due to chip shortages). Hopefully, this gets resolved soon and the supply chains will be back to normal.

Can confirm. The 12 TB is the same kind of drive and enclosure. Shucking meant pretty much destroying the enclosures ability to ever be closed again without glue but honestly who cares? It was easy to do and my nas is happy and full. And yes they're noisy af -- sounds like little rock tumblers

Three years ago, I'd be all over $185/10TB, but here we are in 2021 going 2022. I'll pass.

Movie theaters Shang chi got precovid numbers so we will normalize. At least with ppl unaffected by virus.

Seagate has always been a high failure rate brand, Western Digital is going down the drain and will soon merge with some Japanese company. That leaves us datahoarders one choice - Toshiba Enterprise.
