It's the most popular focal length in the world, as iPhones have a 28mm equivalent.

Wish they'd make lenses for nikon z. I have the adapter but not worth it at the cost to have to use an adapter vs buying the first party S line 24mm f1.8.

I use only 1.4 sigma art lenses with the adapter on a z6. Amazing results. 1.8 isn't 1.4. I will admit that I owned these lenses prior to switching to mirrorless, and was apprehensive how use/results with the adapter would be. Needless to say things turned out better than expected.

Well, 24mm isn't 28mm either.

The Nikon 24mm f/1.8 S is regarded as the finest 24mm Nikon has ever made optically so its a bit strange to convince someone they should skip it.

It really comes down to if you need 24mm or 28mm. If you need 28mm then great - it's also f/1.4. If you need 24mm then great - its the sharpest 24mm Nikon has ever made and 24mm naturally has less bokeh than 28mm anyways so you aren't really missing anything wide open. Even less as you close down.

Blame Nikon and Canon, not Sigma, Tamron, and Samyang. Nikon and Canon have closed systems making 3rd party offerings few due to the need to reverse engineer their new mount interfaces. Sony E Mount is popular because of the open approach.

Weird focal length just mean you are not used to it yet. Most people love the 50mm vs 35mm and vice versa.
I usually goes with a zoom. Not as sharp or speedy or "good" as the prime, but more versatile. Good enough for what I do with my a7s3.

Some people buy a nice wide len and a high megapixels camera and crop after for a "zoom" type feel.
