YMMV Home Depot has the grinder in store in Ocala for this price on clearance.

Makita delivers grinding performance with the 18V LXT Brushless 4-1/2" / 5" Paddle Switch X-LOCK Angle Grinder with AFT, tool only (XAG26Z). The unique feature with this angle grinder is the X-LOCK Technology, which is a quick-change system for tool-free wheel changes. A click-mount and pull release lever make changing wheels easy. The XAG26Z is ideal for grinding and cutting a wide range of materials including tile, concrete, pipe, conduit, and more. It's powered by a Makita-built brushless motor for longer run time, increased power and speed, and longer tool life. The BL Brushless Motor eliminates carbon brushes, enabling the motor to run cooler and more efficiently for longer life. Active Feedback-sensing Technology (AFT) turns the motor off if rotation speed suddenly slows or the wheel is forced to a stop. The XAG26Z also includes a large no lock-on flush-mount paddle switch with two-stage lock-off. In the event that a battery is installed while pulling the paddle switch into the ON position, the anti-restart function prevents the grinder from starting. It's part of Makita's expanding 18V LXT System, the world's largest cordless tool system powered by 18V lithium-ion slide-style batteries. Makita 18V LXT Lithium-Ion Batteries have the fastest charge times in their categories, so they spend more time working and less time sitting on the charger.

This requires X-LOCK discs, which seem much more expensive and less common than the standard round hole mount discs.https://www.makitatools.com/products/xlock

It uses the same mount as the bosch x-lock disks and quite honestly, are not that much more expensive than the normal style. Paying a slight premium for the convenience is worth it for me. I love mine.

My model does not use the X-Lock. And is pretty good for quick jobs.

I would say 80% as good as my electric which I dont use much anymore.

Is a good cordless grinder. If you want better you will need to step up to the new 40volt. But you are going to pay for it.

My concern is disc available in the future, when still using this tool, down the road.

I honestly wouldn't worry about this, given who is behind the X-Lock standard. Bosch has a long history of developing tool blade interfaces. For example:Prices for the accessories will come down as more players adopt the standard. And I think more will because the benefits are sound, namely:
  1. Way faster accessory change
  2. X-LOCK accessories fit on standard angle grinders
  3. Interface is shallower, as there's no nut to get in the way
  4. There's no way of mounting the accessories incorrectly (i.e. backward)
At first, I was worried a bit about adoption of X-Lock too, but having a big player like Makita on board is a good sign for where things are headed IMHO.

I'm pretty sure it can use both. The X-lock and the regular ones

I believe it is only the x-lock ones that will fit, but the x-lock accessories will fit on the standard grinders

Been using this for a few months in a commercial construction setting and i absolutely love it. This is about $20 less than i paid too via hd hack. Only negative is i have to buy diablo or bosch blades and cannot just grab cheap ones sometimes but overall thi thing is great. Almost as much power as corded, makita 5.0 actually last a good while during use. I have not seen a cordless grinder with a faster brake. I also have the dewalt FA grinder while its maybe a bit more powerful the makita just feels so smooth and well built and the wheel stops in right around 1 second flat when trigger is released.

Barely discounted around me. What is up with the laughable clearance at HD, lately? Some stuff is clearanced for like a dollar off.

Their clearance section is just going to get bigger and much less desirable.
