I have one of these. Or similar. Works well. I do the whole house every few months. Pro tip, you can make the cleaning solution at home. No need to spend a crap load on the name brand stuff. Different recipes online, but its basically a combo of awesome cleaner, oxi clean, fabric softener, detergent

Thanks! My carpet cleaner broke this morning so I'm glad there was a deal for a new one. I had a similar model for years and it works pretty well.

Is this a general purpose carpet shampooer or really just a bigger spot cleaner?

Those "rug doctors", while effective, are a huge pita and I'd like to clean some of my carpets just after general use.

No, and even if it was you would be much better off with a normal vacuum. I have two huskies and love my Dyson cordless V8. It's insane how many times I have to empty the canister with all of their fur. Shark also makes some good pet vacuums.

This doesn't seem like a bad option for small spaces though. If you have a larger space, the Big Green Machine is the way to go if you can get it on sale. I currently own the Dyson V8 for normal vacuuming, Bissell Crosswave for my hard floors + smaller rugs, Big Green Machine for quarterly house steam cleaning or bad accidents, and a Bissell Spot Clean pro for smaller accidents, staircases, etc. I also keep a few canisters of Bissell carpet foam for spot treatments/small accidents and it works amazingly well.

It is just a carpet washer/cleaner. You are supposed to vacuum your carpet before using this.
