$300 rebate is valid through 9/26 or while supplies last. Not a killer deal but I was looking for this model so I went ahead and jumped on it. The same specs are $2799 on Dell.com.

The more expensive NVIDIA 3060 graphics card version is available at Costco for $2599 with $300 rebate.

If you're comparing this to a gaming laptop, you're wrong.

I don't think these high end XPS units are heavily discounted on Black Friday so this 17% may be the best we have for a while.
Anyone debating between this and the soon to be released Macbook Pro 16? OR the new Lenovo 16's with the RTX 3060? I think those are even cheaper.

I did look at the Lenovo X1 Extreme 16" Gen4 units but these seemed to have the edge from a thermal standpoint, those seemed to be prone to more severe throttling under heavier loads. Also the quoted shipping times from Lenovo are 4+ months... and it's not any better on the current gen ThinkPad P1s which are the same unit with workstation graphics. No question the Lenovo is going to be more portable, though it's probably more directly comparable to a 15" unit than a 17". Plus all that metal and glass on the Dells adds up.

Yep.. SAVE17 wasn't available when I posted the deal. And when I tried just now from my phone it says the items in my cart were not eligible. Not sure if I did something wrong.
on a side note what is the added benefit of the 3060 graphics card if I don't game? At most I'll be using it for Netflix and YouTube.
Edit 1: After chatting with a Dell rep the i7 configuration is not offered for SAVE17 code anymore:
"As i see you have selected XPS 17 laptop and if you see the i5 and i7 configurations order codes are not listed for the SAVE17 code if it is applicable it would be listed on top of the price as you can use this code"
...
"I am afraid that we cannot add this SAVE17 code to this configuration as deals keep on changing everyday once it expires we are unable to honor the same price again but we can check for the best price for the unit which you have selected in your cart."
I believe the Costco deal is still valid though.
Edit 2: I just reordered through Dell.com but I had to get i9 processor to apply the SAVE17 code. It's probably a waste since the i9 chip doesn't really help laptops as much it does PCs.

Reading between the lines a little, it sounds like you may have been over on the Home site. Dell offers the same XPS laptops on both home and business sites with different configurations and pricing… and often different pricing for identical configurations. If you don't see it on one site, always check the other. Ordering from the business side is preferable anyway because ProSupport is superior to the home support offerings, and one doesn't need to be a business to buy there.
You don't, strictly speaking, need a dedicated graphics card for routine browsing use or streaming video. However these laptops are packing a lot of pixels and a more powerful graphics card driving them will result in a smoother, more fluid feel… for instance you'll experience less of that laggy, jittery feel when moving windows around, less stuttering in the videos you watch, and so forth. Especially if you are plugging in any external monitors and using more than one display.
