Lego, something is fishy! My first guess would be Lego raised the price for the FF version and forgot to raise the price for the SP version.

Being able to control the train with the remote or a smartphone is nice especially for kids. However call me old school but I don't like being battery limited. (Train motor takes batteries, controller takes batteries / smartphone uses battery) whereas the powered rail trains plug into the wall for endless fun. Yes, the non powered track lets you have as big of a layout as you want without needing to boost the rail power but the vast majority of setups will not be large enough to matter.
