Check reviews. While the Ryzen processor is a beast. The computer hardware limits it to 15 watts severely limiting performance in this configuration.

This is by far the cheapest price, almost $120 cheaper than the last FP deal.

Soldered non-replaceable RAM (not a big issue for 16GB)

43 Wh battery, which is well below average, clearly sacrificed for lazy weight reduction. The LG gram packs 72Wh in the same form factor and weight because they actually put effort into engineering.

Great multithread performance for the size, double what Intel based TGL-U offers, but trailing 10-20% in single thread.

Mostly negative customer reviews though.

No thunderbolt (AMD) or dedicated RJ45 (rare for this class though)

If you ditch the barrel charger and use USB-C, you end up with only one USB port available, and it has a moving receptacle which makes it prone to failure.. Not ideal at all.

Notebookcheck review says the realtek wifi NIC is pretty bad, 661 Mbit/s compared while Intel NIC's on similar devices are essentially 1000-1400 Mbit/s

This is like the poor mans LG Gram, half the battery life, half the customer review ratings, half the price. There are other laptops in this price and form factor category with more I/O, battery life, etc but none are perfect.

Looking for a non-techie friend. Thinking the base configuration is best. They won't care about a high-res screen, and 256GB will likely last them a looooong time. Ah - I see $20 gets the backlit keyboard.
Well, not techie person using this laptop does not mean that 256GB will last long because if they wan t to store files locally, especially games and media files.
And regarding the Ram, I will suggest to get that with 16GB ($50 upgrade) over base version.

I think it's at 700. That's why the OP upgraded parts.
No, I have not upgraded for that. It is over $599. I have upgraded the parts which are most important and upgrade is offered in a reasonable price (like $50 SSD Upgrade, $10 Wi-Fi card update) or can't be upgraded at all, like Memory and backlit keyboard.

If for myself, 16GB RAM and 500GB SSD is a no-brainer. But a normal person who does 95% of their work in a browser isn't going to make use of either of these, nor know if they have/don't have them.

Anyone know if the estimated ship date is conservative? Waiting almost a month is kind of a turn off...

they refuse to price match because it's a labor day sale, even though the original FP deal (which I ordered on) was part of the same sale. Canceling is a 3-5 day process (??) with no guarantee that it will go through, but if it does, there will be no extra fee. What a crock.

i ordered a HP laptop many moons ago. If you asked to return it they would sometimes give you like 10% off it.

Is that still the case?

Great deal! Wish it came in black.
Which color would be best in order to be able to see the keys in any situation?

Does everyone here agree with OPs recommended upgrades? Otherwise the unit is $549 as a base model
I got rid of the NVMe upgrade since I have a old 1 TB that's sitting on my desk unused. Other than that I think I'm keeping everything else the same

Does anyone know the length of the NVMe drive in this? 2280?

Edit: Looks like 2280 from Notebookcheck. Shame it's not 2230.
Errr. Isn't 2280 backward compatible. Most have screw mount to install smaller size m.2.

Could someone more tech savy than I am help me compare these two deals? https://slickdeals.net/share/android_app/fp/662914

Ive done a side by side spec comparison, but not sure which differences make one a better deal over the other. Heres what Ive noticed.

Costco one:
15.6" screen
250 nits
No backlit keyboard.
Costco has better return policy?
Has touchscreen

HP:
13.3" screen
400 nits
Backlit keyboard
Bo touchacreen
What size laptop do you want? 17.3" 16.00" 15.6 " 14.1" 14.0" 13.3"

And then what quality screen do you want?

What is your budget?

If I wanted a larger screen such as a 15.6" and saw this deal... I would walk away cause you should go buy the size you need or want.

Is this a plastic or aluminum build?

Interesting enough this is at odds with another review that has the draw above 30 watts.

https://www.notebookcheck.net/HP-...411.0.html

I did forget to mention the written review is using a 5800 instead of the 5600. Might be the difference there.

Spot on. 13 inch already a deal breaker for me. Screen too small for work, school, etc. though I also connect external monitors. Even when traveling, for me, the bigger laptop screen has its advantages.
