720p is approximately 1 MP, so I 'd assume that's what they mean.

This has Vega 8 graphics at 1200 MHz, and enough ram to service the GPU and system memory, so yes. Roblox runs fine on mobile phones, so this would be more than enough for Roblox, CSGo, Fortnite (at reasonable settings) etc.

Gateway is the "budget" brand of Acer. For those who think Acer wasn't already budget enough.

So don't be surprised if this laptop phones home fairly often.
Your tinfoil hat is too loose. Better tighten it or get another one. You should be more afraid of MS and Google.

You never heard of spyware, malware or even ransomware? Additional hardware isn't necessary for any of these, just a internet connection, admin privileges and an unsuspecting target with valuable data. If you want to blow up the computer or something then explosives but, it's easier to just simulate it on screen
If anyone was that paranoid, they'd know how to format and re-image their computers already. Or maybe not, giving too much credit to those people.

Anyone know if this supports DisplayPort Alt mode on the USB-C connection for using an external alt mode portable display?

I am using a Lenovo I bought during BF 2019 with a similar CPU. I do agree that quality of lower priced laptops is bad, but if I get 3 years out of it, I will be happy.
$100/year from any laptop is very good. Great point.

my son wants to know if this would be good for Roblox?
I am sure you were answered...

This is a good deals, but the CPU is part of the 3 series when AMD is on the 5 series... so this is not as fast as you may think. And realize this is an all plastic build... you need to baby this laptop. Don't get me wrong, our family laptop is a i5 3rd gen with 16GB or RAM and a 1TB SSD... I paid $350 for this laptop in the day... it works and stays on our kitchen table most of the time but the chassis is cracked in multiple places... I am not running to buy a new one yet. But keep in mind that you really need to baby the cheap laptops cause their build is not so great.

I am personally not brand loyal and would not hesitate getting this laptop. Having a cheap laptop does not mean more problems. There have been issues with every laptop manufacturer at one point.

I don't see why a USB-C to HDMI cable would not work. It does have a HDMI out.

The question is... should you spend more and get the newest gen AMD CPU.....

The two cheapest deals right now are....

HP 15z-ef2000 Laptop: Ryzen 7 5700U, 15.6" IPS, 16GB DDR4, 256GB SSD $570 OR
HP 15z-ef2000 Laptop: 15.6" FHD IPS, Ryzen 5 5500U, 8GB DDR4, 256GB PCIe SSD, Win10H @ $449.99

The deal for $449.99 needs more RAM IMHO... so that will increase your price. Bottom line, Ryzen 7 5700U for $570.00 is not to bad.

To be fair, unless I'm working for the government, the financial sector, or some tech R&D, I don't see what they could get that would be of any value.

I bought this Gateway laptop when it first went on sale about 6 months ago at Walmart. The speakers on this laptop suck. So I bought a cheap soundbar and attached the soundbar via the Headphones jack. Now the audio is fine, loud enough and not tinny.

was very tempted to ask for a replacement for my work laptop which has a Intel Xeon E3-1505M v5 , but this looks to be about the dead same in bench marks.
I see that the new i3 quad cores actually bench mark much higher than something like this. I wish they would drop to this price range. I need a cheap throw away laptop to take to job sites that can run CAD programs.

Yeah tell that to my Acer Predator Helios 300 that died two months after the 2 year warranty went out. I spent around $1000 on that. It should have lasted five years.
You can find exceptions for any reliability reports. Individual anecdotes are not useful; you have to look at the total numbers. Toyota has one of the best, if not the best reliability ratings in the auto industry, yet they still make a lemon every now and then.

It depends on your priorities. I personally would prefer to pay more for a solid, well made and lightweight laptop that I can depend on to be reliable. Back when I started buying laptops for myself and my family in the early aughts, I would always get the entry level Dells or whatever else was cheap from the deal sites, then wonder why things would start failing after a year or so. Once I switched to the corporate or higher level versions, I stopped having these issues. If money is the first consideration then this is a great deal, and more power to you.

This would be a great little laptop for surfing the web etc. Shame it
