You need to stay will Cricket for 6 months to unlock the phone. However, the $180 that you paid for the 3 months of unlimited services can be downgraded to $30 monthly plan to stretch it to 6 months, which will make you eligible to request for a unlock.
180 days of active service. It's actually more like 175, as I unlocked from a previous deal at that point to avoid paying for another month.

Also, if you move the SIM to another phone it will 'break' the required service time. Some people say you can 'resume' the clock by moving it back, but others say it starts over at 0 again. I didn't want to risk it, so I left it in the iPhone and paid for 6 months total (basically this deal gives you six months prepaid service you switch to the $30 plan with only 2gb of data). Earlier deals would only make you pay $60 or $120, and you could use referrals to help lower future cost some.
From my understanding, it has something to do with the 1 month limit for each deal posted. After a month, the deal will be marked as expired even if it is still ongoing. I think that's basically why the deal was reposted 3 times.

While the old thread is dead, I searched it, and have not found if an iPhone must be activated with cricket sim prior to using R-SIM? Thinking to switch to Cricket but use SIM card in current iPhone, and sell the iPhone. As I remember from the old thread if I insert SIM in another phone all credits stay on my account, and if I'm ok that iPhone will remain locked, I can skip new phone activation .

From my experience, you don't have to activate the new phone. You can use the cricket sim in your current phone if it is compatible with Cricket and the credits stay with the number. As you have mentioned, the new iPhone SE will remain locked.

Does that mean if you just pay $180 for the phone and use it for 3 months the phone will get unlocked?

Ok, thanks!

By the way, anybody unlocked with R-SIM or Gevey without prior Cricket activation? As I understand this does not matter, there were some issue with other phones.

how is that going to work? any further info?

OP's post mentions you pay the $180 at the point of ordering and $60 goes to first month service. Are you suggesting switch to $30 plan the day you activate and hence it becomes a 6 month service? Did I get this right?

Yes when you get the phone and activating it you downgrade the plan to 30$ a months and u get rest of the credits automatically applied on account. So you will get 6 months of service and would be able to unlock it in 180 days.
