I GUESS it could be used for groceries though.
We currently promote things ahead of time when they are hot and it helps that people get advanced notice. When the community votes things up we want to err on the side of exposing it so people become aware of the hottest, trending things and so they can contribute to the discussion.
Posting it early usually doesn't make us any extra money because it's not like people can get the deal early but it certainly lets slickdealers find deals. It's particularly useful when it's a limited offer and people need advanced heads-up notice.
