Don't forget the great Amazon has price matched most of these:

I use this often and when you click on the titles, it will tell you which service has this price currently. I try and get them on iTunes because of the free future upgrade possibility. This is a nice way to check sales across different platforms.
I don't think FARGO is (MA).
It's not.

Midnight Run and Slapshot. Two classics that stood out for me (that weren't listed above).

A little off topic but The Sandlot is not real 4K. There is no official 4K release for the movie. I'm not sure how they are able to peddle movies on these digital platform as 4K when they don't exist as physical releases. Unbelievable that these platforms continue to do this with certain movies.
Ummm, whut? There are tons of 4K movies available only digitally with some eventually getting physical releases as well. I just the Beverly Hills Cop trilogy and all are 4K Dolby Vision, but only the first movie merited a disc release, too. Drawing a blank ATM, but I've had several digital 4K releases months ahead of a disc edition being put out.

It's simple economics: It costs X dollars to make a 4K master of a catalog title which can then be sold at a premium price via streaming services forever for that one-time investment, but making a physical release requires spending the money manufacturing and distributing discs which may not recoup the investment. How many nostalgic Gen Xers will insta-buy The Sandlot for $5 as opposed to pass over a $20+ disc release? There are still a frightening number of Luddites who never moved to Blu-ray from DVD.

Kudos for not being the usual "it's FAKE 4K, upscaled from a 2K master" guy, though.

There's a 4K database website which labels movies as "fake 4K" and "real 4K'. Sorry, but The Sandlot is not real 4K according to them. Usually the biggest tell that a movie isn't a real 4K reproduction is it not being available on a physical release. Are their exceptions to that rule? I'm sure there are but if you look at Amazon comments on non-physical released 4K digital content on Amazon you usually see people complain about how terrible the "4K" looks. Coincidence? I think not.

I stand corrected - you ARE one of those "fake 4K" clowns. You are aware that many modern 4K titles are "fake 4K" because they were finished at 2K because rendering 2000+ VFX shots for a Marvel movie in 4K would've been prohibitive in terms of cost and time since they're four times the resolution, don't you?

Fake purists like you are as tiresome as the anime losers who refuse to accept dubbed audio as if the translated subtitles are accurate.

Some people have higher standards than you have. I'm not going to pay extra money for a "4k film" that almost looks indifferent to the 1080p blu ray version. I'm not going to pay my hard earned cash for mediocrity. I don't care if its "cost prohibitive" for Hollywood. They are making incredible amounts of money. I want quality. I'm not going to pay for a cash cow release. Before I buy any 4K film I research the 4K transfer quality. If the quality isn't top notch I'd rather just get the 1080p version on vudu for $2. I can get any 1080p movie for $2 all day any day on vudu.

Agreed. Since we're getting closer to Halloween and sometimes a good horror movie is harder than not to pick out, I would like to recommend:
DEAD RINGERS [vudu.com]
David Cronenberg directed The Fly and Videodrome, two other horror/sci-fi classics.

Lastly, if anybody is interested in deep cuts, I would put forth the following two Paramount titles that don't often go on sale:
THE TEN COMMANDMENTS (1923) [vudu.com]
Cecil DeMille earlier version. Not as famous as the one with Charlton Heston, but an interesting comparison of Hollywood maturation over 30 years.
1900 [vudu.com]
This is a not-very-well-known Italian film starring Robert De Niro who had just previously hit it big with Taxi Driver. Neat to see De Niro speaking Italian; obviously his native tongue. If you read his wikipedia entry, he has had a very interesting, volatile life.

Regardless of your feelings about 2K intermediates vs. 4K intermediates, your claim about physical discs is patently false. In the last few years, there have been a large number of regular blu-rays of older movies released that are based on 4K scans of the film source. This is especially common for botique labels, but sometimes for studio titles where the expected sales of a 4K UHD are very low.

In those cases, that 4K scan is a perfectly "true 4k" master on which the digital can be based...and it is. One case in point: Event Horizon. Shout Factory did 4K scan for the blu-ray release, which the studio then used to release it in 4k digital. No UHD disc has been released.

Further, film-based movies are not "fake" 4k in any way. The estimated "resolution" captured by quality 35mm film is between 4k and 8k. Yes, it's analog, but the maximum usable resolution is limited by the size of the silver nitrate crystals. It's not infinite, but it's greater than 4k. So, a good 4k scan is real 4k in every sense. It's just a different technology than digital 4k.

Finally, the greatest advantages of 4k are HDR and wide color gamut, not the resolution. So you are definitely gaining quality in most cases, even if you're stuck on one specification of the transfer that I guarantee you couldn't pick out of a side-by-side lineup 9 times out of 10.

The 4K release comes from the studio. The digital providers don't create it themselves.

I also use a website/app called JustWatch.com, they give you streaming/renting/purchase options in a single screen so it's very nice.

Getting back to the deals, I just want to say that Schindler's List is an excellent first date movie, especially if you're looking to make out with someone.

I like the part you wrote about anime. I'm constantly getting flack from people about watching stuff dubbed. People act like they're God's gift to the anime community because they "only watch anime in it's purest form". There are some amazing voice actors our there.
