Haven't kept up with the tech but what separates these from the less expensive and also more expensive models? Just the features and how "smart" they are? Considering getting something for our new place, which is all tile downstairs. I wish they had something that could navigate steps... Lol

You solve that problem by buying two In addition your robots can keep each other company.
These have a problem with dog hair. The station won't empty the bin with the hair in it. However I duck taped one of the 2 suction holes shut. Problem solved. Works great now. I have 2 100lb husky mixed. So dog hair is a nightmare and this beauty now solves it. Best robot vac deal you will find for the price.

These map the house and make sure they cover every inch. Additionally they mop as well as vacuum which is nice for hard floors - when mopping mode is active the vacuum will avoid areas with carpet.
We have 3 dogs and 2 cats and our Deebot T8+ (basically the same as this) is a lifesaver.

Key features include better navigation/mapping (such as with lidar versus cameras), better roller/brushes (Roomba is the best for that), repairability and common parts, active and helpful online forums or Facebook groups, mopping, and something like this unit the auto-empty base becoming more popular.
VacuumWars on YouTube has some great reviews, but keep an eye out on sponsored reviews as well.

Nice! Would you say the N8+ is the best value for the dollar at this point? Or is there a better ones to hold out for?

It's tough to give universal recommendations, but I'd specifically look to see how helpful an auto-empty base would be.
I currently just have a basic Roborock S4 and would really like an auto empty base and Roombas brush with my heavy shedder GSD. I've heard good things about deebot, but at this price there are often good sales for Roborock or Roomba (without auto-empty bases) if your might prefer their strengths over this one and it's base. Still, great value for sure
Just bought one. Thanks OP. Earlier I bought U2 version. I am so much impressed by the vacuuming and mopping function that I didn't think twice to order the one with mapping and self-empty feature. Looking forward to using it.

There are consistent complaints and comments how the ecovacs robots get stuck or maps get deleted after software updates. Good luck
