What I did was I added the item to 'Offer saved'. Then I go the the store. At the store before I go the the checkout line, I stood at the aisle where the item is and open Target app, use the bar code scanner of the app to point to the bar code printed on the item carton. After that, I don't see that app says anything like 'You have redeemed the offer'. I don't know what I need to do when I'm at the checkout. Please advise. Thanks.
Update: on the wallet tab of the app, there's a bar code and at the bottom, there's the wording 'Scan to save' using the hand scanner at the checkout. I'll try that.
Update 2: after the cashier scanned the item first and then the app bar code, no notifications from the app. Only when I used the app to scan the bar code on the receipt, then I got the message something like this 'your benefit is coming'.

Basically it's saying just be sure after you add the offer, you are using your target circle for this, whether you have them scan your barcode in the wallet section or you enter your number on the screen
I knew I wouldn't qualify for the Target $5 rebate but man...at least I get 50% back I guess, just gotta shop around and hope for a sale at $13-15
