I'm guessing the earlier poster was referring to this IVY (not IYV) Les Paul copy

hmm....a made in china $600 epiphone or a $180 made in vietnam copy? i'm gonna have to go with neither...especially the $600 epiphone

let me ask you this: how much do you think you will be able to resell that $600 epiphone for down the road? if you guessed $100 bucks, you are correct!

If you're already thinking about spending 6 bills on an epiphone, save two or three more hundred and get a gibson les paul studio (available used between $800 and $1100). why do i say this? because 1) while you might sort of like the epiphone, you'll always compare it to "what could have been" in the gibson, 2) the entire time you have that epiphone, you'll know it was from china and you'll know that everyone else knows, too, 3) you'll wish it was a gibson before it's even shipped out to you, and 4) later on, you can actually get your money back out of the gibson.

why be embarrassed of the guitar you're playing when, instead, you could be proud?

These Epiphone Customs Pros consistently sell used for $450 - $500. While I do like a good used Gibson Studio, you are comparing apples to oranges. For one, the finish and binding are top notch on these Epi Pros while it's non-existent on a used Gibson studio. Two, you can't compare new vs used. A brand new Gibson Studio is $1,500.

I own both and I have to say the IYV is killer for the price. If you like green that is ... both the guitar and $$$$$. lol

My guitarist plays an Epi LP. It sounds fantastic and he can bring it anywhere. Hasn't the world of the $800 used LP Studio passed us by?

The quality of the Chinese copies has got much better in the last 5 years and there might be some truth in the quality of Gibson slipping. But the cheapest Gibson has a quality that the most expensive Epiphone is missing. There is a feeling that the guitar loves you back.

There is a time and place for everything. I don't know how they are getting into the $700 range with these things. They must be making money hand over fist.

Lol the people in this thread don't know what they're talking about. Good luck finding any Gibson Les Pauls in Silverburst for anywhere near this price. I think they made Studios in this finish for like 1 year a decade ago. No binding or Custom diamond headstock logo either. The ProBuckers are good pickups too. Epiphone has come a long way in the past few years, people love them. This is a great price.

Agreed. You can buy a custom for about $4,700 if one were so inclined.

This is a good deal. The higher end Epiphones are very good instruments even for experienced guitar players. It's hard to find any guitar in silver burst right now let alone one with Gibson custom style binding and an ebony fretboard.
