I picked one of these up last time and one of my 5 gallon tanks got cloudy since a clam died.. well was partially eaten.
It took over 24 hours to really clear the water up and I added extra (3-4 tablespoons or more) BRS carbon in a bag. Also, the flow was meh and I doubt this would handle a 20-30 gallon tank as it mentions.
I also had a heck of a time priming the darn thing, but maybe it was related to the fact that the tank was not deep enough for the full extension bar.
In addition, it is very loud even without the bio-wheel. Fine for during the day, but if it's in a bedroom the inhabitant will likely complain.

Can I use 2 of these filters in my tank ? It has two slots for filters but currently has one large one.
2 of these would work fine though
No, they were workhorses 20 years ago, they are made with cheaper motors and plastic now and won't hold up the same way. It's a lottery if you will have a well built one.
I suggest replacing the filter cartage with these sponge > https://www.amazon.com/Aquaclear-...JHBC&psc=1
I use the 200 model filter's on 2 - 29gal and 2 - 20gal tanks for the past decade without any issues.
When the tank is filled to the correct level these filters are Dead Silent. I'll be picking a couple more up just for the parts as the impeller's do eventually get worn and need replacement. (like 20+ years)
also @duijver trying to filter a half filled 5 gal tank with this won't work it's simple the wrong filter for the job.
They make small submersible filters for this purpose.

I don't have any experience with that exact model but I have used submersible filters in tanks for frogs and mudskippers. A hang on the back filter is simply not the right tool for the job.

I'm about used up the filters/media I have for it... also pump motor has weakened a bunch, so its isn't pumping like it did new, so am in market to replace. (have taken apart, it's clean)
I'm thinking the marineland 100gph for 10-20g tank would work. I might upgrade to 20g tank at some point anyhow.
Just raising platy's of different sorts.. they love waterfall, play in it often.

I'm no expert, but most so-called "expert" websites and forums of enthusiasts I've read said the active carbon filter has little use. Those filter packs just for them to get more money, like printer makers sell you a printer for cheap and expect you to buy cartridge from them.
The most important is the biological filter with optional mechanical filter, chemical filter is the least useful.
I simply use the stock (simple) hang on back filter comes in my 5 gallon kit, removed the active carbon cartridge (and its poly bag which acts mechanical filter). I'm now using only use a 30PPI foam (bio filter and large dirt) + a thin poly fil (ripped from a poly pillow, mechanical filter) + 20PPI foam (bio filter), change the poly fil and 1/4 water every few weeks to remove nitrate accumulated. The water looks always clear.
