10 days battery life, is still very good
I've been satisified with the Barton Watch band straps for about $20. I don't see anything special about the Garmin ones, swapped it out as soon as I got my watch.
The Fenix 6 Pro and above models have maps and turn by turn routing. The navigation isn't as responsive as a phone, but it is serviceable, potentially more accessible while riding, and the battery life is much better.
There are lots of established manufacturers of standard watch bands that fit standard lugs, and many of them are very well-built with really high-quality materials for the price. Many Garmin models however, have/had proprietary screw in bars (Fenix 3/5, VivoActive 1), or proprietary sized spring bars (Fenix 6) with a proprietary quick release mechanism. If you have a Garmin with proprietary lugs then straps from reputable band vendors like Barton may not fit (definitely not the quick-release) and you have to buy from Garmin or one of the knockoff vendors on Amazon. It's the random chinese vendors on Amazon who I haven't been impressed with.
I didn't know the other Garmin watches didn't take standard watch straps. Thanks for the insight.
Couldn't be happier. This thing is a tank (taken a couple of full on metal hammers (from elliptical fly handles) to the watch face without a scratch) that has helped me, in 2 and a half months, lose 20 pounds and go from couch potato who'd be out of breath running next door to someone who can jog his first 1/4 mile without even feeling it.... something I haven't been able to do in nearly a quarter century.
It was the final piece (/tool) missing to get me motivated to get in shape. This and my Subaru Forester are my top 2 purchases of this decade.

As for budget, the cheaper the better...don't really want to drop $600
Would an Apple Watch make more sense?
Thanks.
