Lenovo needs to stop with the soldered memory. And do they still use whitelists for upgradable components like SSD drives and WiFi cards? The last laptop I bought from that brand was a huge frustration and I swore never again.
One memory soldered to systemboard, one DDR4 SO-DIMM slot, dual-channel capable

So you can probably change the 8gb chip for a 16gb and end up with 20gb if you wanted. Vendors max memory is not usually a true limit. The soldered memory is 4gb.

Lowest specs a laptop should have in 2021.

- a lot of bad reviews, but you can return it
- ram is probably upgradeable, because 12gb is an odd size. I couldn't find anything with a quick search.

Decent.

99% sure the ram is not upgradeable. Unless you get a larger laptop none of them are anymore
the psref link above says only the 4gb is soldered, so you can probably upgrade

from what i understand, only the first 8gb (4+4) will run in dual channel, and the remaining 4gb (0+4) will run single channel

Cause it's cheaper to solder on the motherboard, than paying suppliers for the SO-DIMM modules. Hahahaha

I never understood 12Gb of RAM in a discount laptop !
It's either 8 or 16, what's with the 12 !?! Hurts my brain a lot (what's left of it 😁)

Almost thought this was an HP. I dunno what it is with Lenovo ideapad but I always hear bad reviews related to the touch pad. I've personally used ones from a couple years ago and that was my experience. I figured by now they would have figured out how to make a decent trackpad by now but I guess not. Also someone mentioned after a few months the hinge broke and Lenovo warranty didn't cover it, apparently it's a common problem. Must be a design flaw

Soldered RAM is faster than in a slot as well. At least there are faster options. This may well have to do with the necessity for faster RAM in the future. So far they are not soldering faster RAM.

Look at the specs of the CPU and you will see higher speed LPDDR than DDR in the specs.

Full specs here:

https://psref.lenovo.com/Detail/I...82H800KAUS [lenovo.com]
Memory4GB Soldered DDR4-3200 + 8GB SO-DIMM DDR4-3200
Memory Slots One memory soldered to systemboard, one DDR4 SO-DIMM slot, dual-channel capable
Max Memory Up to 12GB (4GB soldered + 8GB SO-DIMM) DDR4-3200 offering

So to have dual channel you would have to go to 8GB. Not so sure you could not insert a 16GB SO_DIMM and get 20 GB.

This would have been far better if the 8GB was soldered.
