Not the lowest price as the limited availability FP deal, but a decent price for those who prefer a wired connection. Seems to have most of the features of the top of the line Roku Ultra. Also has a microSD slot for extra channel storage.

If you're talking about slowing down over time, there's a trick to Roku devices for deleting the cache -- I've found this helps get rid of sluggishness. I'm running a Roku 4 (5+ years old now) and it still works great if I wipe the cache a few times a year.

1. Press the Home button five times.
2. Press the Up button once.
3. Press the Rewind button twice.
4. Press the Fast Forward button twice.
5. The device will restart in a few seconds.

I also add felt and rubber bumper pads to the bottom to give it more airflow/prevent overheating.
I added microSD cards to mine, just some really cheap 32 GB guys, because it lets apps cache data. Forget where I read it, but Netflix is a good test. When you launch Netflix with no microSD, it has to pull all of that initial screen from the internet. After inserting a microSD, that page loads instantly. Yes adding the card also allows more channel storage if you need it, but I think Roku did itself a disservice by not advertising it for the performance improvements -- because there is a noticeable speed improvement by added the microSD cards.

The "updated" Ultra removed the microSD card because they supposedly beefed up internal storage but it's nowhere near as large as you can find with microSD cards so I guess time will tell if app bloat becomes an issue.
Who cares? Wired is always better...

Ok, great. Google TV is an app. Much like Youtube or Netflix. That link is a Chromecast. If you want to say a Chromecast doesn't have enough storage say "my Chromecast did not have enough storage". There are many Android TV products (not Chromecasts) and none of them are made by Google.

No. Google tv is not an app. It is the UI of the chromecast with Google tv. A completely new, well almost a year old product.

I was thinking about upgrading my Roku's but I forgot the YTTV channel can't be downloaded anymore. That would be super incovenient. I still have it loaded on my old Rokus. Hopefully, they strike a deal sooner than later.
If you already have YTTV on your old Rokus, then when you sign in to a new Roku with the same account, the channel will download automatically. Only users who didn't have YTTV before it got yanked from the store are not able to get YTTV on their existing or new Rokus. Besides that you can access YTTV by signing in via the regular YouTube channel and regardless of if you had YTTV before or after it got yanked from the store.

ok, so they rebranded Play Movies and TV app to Google TV and also rebranded Android TV OS/UI back to Google TV. Still, complaining about one's "Google TV" is not specific enough. That product is "Chromecast with Google TV". There are many other products with Android TV and now Google TV.

You said "do not get a current Google TV device". That strongly implies Google TV was a downgrade. Yet The Nvidia Shield TV suddenly has the best menu for streaming [techhive.com] with its Google TV upgrade. In fact, the Nvidia Shield TV Pro is currently the best streaming device available, and has been ever since it was released...at $200. But, ya know, the best. That doesn't match up with "do not get a current Google TV device" at all.

Is the shield a dongle? Nope. Sorry you were not aware of Google's new device. I assume that made it confusing. Regardless, the new CCwGTV lacks storage for common users.

I wondered if that would be the case. Thanks for the tip.

My experience is that Roku is garbage.

I have a 1st gen Roku Ultra. Fast forwarding is a thumbnail slideshow, and you have to hold the button down or click it over and over to skip ahead bit by bit.

My 3rd gen Apple TV (2012?) did full screen fast forward in youtube for example. Only problem is lack of newer apps because they discontinued app support basically.

Have to pull batteries out of remote occasionally because it stops responding.

Just crashes and resets every so often.
Never mind

You're hopeless. But I won't let you deceive anyone about what you actually said.

And….blocked.

You still can't even quote me right. You're hopeless. I know technology can be difficult for some to keep up with, but stick with it.

Do NOT get a current Google TV dongle. Huge issue everyone is now discovering….no storage. I only have 11 apps installed and can't install any others or update current ones. Have to clear cache daily. I have 4 CCwGTV devices and they are all like this. Google went cheap on the storage.

If you clear cache do you have to log in again to each app (Netflix, Prime, etc.)? Want to be sure I don't lose the login userid and passwords. they are a pain to enter in again.

If you ever have to do that again, do yourself a favor and use the Roku app on your phone as a remote, so you can type with your mobile keyboard.

I returned mine. The first strike was that it didnt play 4k plex rips. Second strike was that the headphone feature rarely worked, would plug them in and no sound would come out. Third strike was last night, i was streaming content and no matter what app i was using it kept quiting to the home page after about 3 minutes... Took it back and got the 4k apple tv. Loving it so far

Apologies for the slow reply - crazy week at work. No, you don't lose any logins or settings like WiFi. It's a very safe thing to do, give it a go. Takes less than 5 minutes from waking up your device to it being comfortably rebooted and ready to use.
