Any cooling product that is socket-specific is always doomed to huge price cuts. I wonder how much companies actually make on these products after R&D, because on the consumer line you have this $120 MSRP air cooler or a 240mm AIO (even TR-specific). And with poor size compatibility/limited mounting adapters, it hurts to see these destined for some dusty closet somewhere. Even though there's not much in terms of rare earth, these things give off big e-waste vibes.

I'd like to see someone make a 3D printed or sheet metal mount adapter since the TR4 socket is bigger than the AM4 socket. It's a nice-looking cooler with potential, albeit HUGE. It kind of looks like a Honda vertical shaft lawnmower engine though. At this price it might come in handy in the future for a thermoelectric cooler project or something :/

And that is why we can melt it and make something new.

Does anyone have this heatsink? If so, can you take off the plastic shroud and measure the height of the cooler without the shroud?

Recycling plastics and electronics is a bit more costly/complicated than just melting down metal.

What's giving you the e-waste vibes? There's one small pcb on the fan itself and one to two for the rgb. Compared to the rest of a desktop build, this will be the least of your worries.

Are you building a computer based on the cpu cooler?

I'm guessing that AMD probably paid for the R&D/marketing to Cooler Master. Cooler Master was also likely already building tooling for the mounts as they build server heatsinks (SP3 socket)... just needed to slap on a tower stack and some RGBs.

This _should_ work on sTRX4 and SP3 sockets so might be a good option to have in the parts bin if some decommissioned workstations get dumped onto the 2nd hand market for cheap.

I am a big rebate guy, but even I think that a $90 rebate is ridiculous. Plus, the tax is calculated on the price before the rebate, so CA residents need to add about $12 more to the purchase price for tax. So, for CA resident, your final price is going to be around $42 AR instead of $33 AR.

You still get back 90 dollars.

I really doubt it. From the product page it was made specifically to mount to the Threadripper TRX socket with no backplate which compared to an I7 is a huge socket. I mean you might be able to make it work with some ingenuity or custom bracket but it would not be easy by any means.
