This deal is $50 - $100 less than other places are selling it for. Great deal for a dual fuel generator. Running on propane is the way to go (just about unlimited shelf life, no gummed up carbs from neglected gasoline.).

How does this compare to the deal for the Champion? http://https://slickdeals.net/f/15260716-champion-power-equipment-2000-watt-dual-fuel-gas-propane-in... [https]

I found a comparison site and it seems this one is a better deal based off of that.https://generatorbible.com/compar...6013,18160

Any thoughts? I'd like one of this for camping and emergency use. TIA.

for that price I was thinking about getting 8 18V ryobi 4.0 ah, and building something like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lAAWFCU4iEM

It is up to you how to use your money, but don't even dream on using this set up to power your fridge for a few hours during a blackout. Your got the wattage output but for a very short time. Do the math. 4Ah x 18V x number of batteries. For a 5A 120V appliance, you have less than an hour of run time even if there is no energy loss during the transformation.

I prefer the version that uses the Yamaha engine, but for the price this is solid

I thought all AiPowers used Yamaha engines? What engine does this use?

As an aside, they had this for $399 back in July. I bought one then but returned it because they removed the 12V output on it in favor of anemic USB ports. I wasn't expecting that, because some reviews and product literature referred to the 12V output & included cables. When I called AiPower to inquire/complain about it, they said a change was made recently and they hadn't updated the manual yet.

Also, it claims to come with oil but does not--I saw that in the reviews and that was my experience as well. Not really a big deal though as you'd want to make sure you're putting good quality oil in these.

Otherwise it seemed like a nice generator (I didn't power it on though since I knew I was going to return it).

The Champion is probably worth the extra $50 because it's lighter, quieter and has the 12V output (at least the Amazon version does, I think the Walmart version is USB)

Costco sells (or sold) a version that had the actual Yamaha mz80 engine in it and is labeled as such. The other version has a "clone" but it's debatable and some have said it is an actual Yamaha based on what was imprinted/engraved on the engine block

Where do you live that it's almost December? I say this as someone who used to live in Florida.

Being dual fuel you can use propane instead (or use it for your grill in the meantime) which simplifies things a bit if it stays in storage long time. The sound level it makes would be a big point for me though as well.

Yeah, Costco still sells that one with the Yamaha engine---it's got a blue case, but otherwise looks identical to the SUA2300i, which is red (which I picked up for $250 a few years back ast Sams Club). I've also heard that rumor that it has a genuine Yamaha engine but for some reason AiPower didn't get the OK to advertise it as a real Yamaha. Who knows.
