My understanding is that resin printers offer much higher resolution than filament printers with the downside being the toxic fumes and chemicals and a more involved cleanup. Is that about right? Would love it if owners who have had both types could chime in.

I have both filament and resin printers multiples of both,
Biggest difference imo is resin is brittle pretty much in a nutshell, most prints cannot be used for most functional parts generally , there are resins like sirya tech tenacious that you can add to your normal resins that make the prints stronger in ways, resin is a bit more expensive to use and start up (clean up, alot more consumables used in the process) using not by much but it is
But imo filament printers have the edge of size and materials there are tons of different plastics out there even budget printers can print , downside to filament Imo is the tinkering , I like tinkering, first layer, etc but to someone that doesn't want a hobby or to learn the workings then... Maybe a deal breaker
This deal imo isn't a deal, you can get a mars2 for under 200,
I just got a elegoo Saturn $500 with a bottle of resin
If you want a resin printer, I'd look at the Saturn, it's got a bigger build plate etc for less than 200$ more you can have a build size 3 times larger with the Saturn

Resin can stink up the house, has to be in a warm environment as it will thicken up an fail prints

I saw a ender 3v2 at new egg for 230$ really good deal on that , and it's half the way to being totally silent(silence the PSU mobo and hotend fans with silent fans and it's gold) if you have your printers in the bedroom living dinning room etc

For me I kinda regret getting into resin even though Iam a month into it, it's kinda boring and ocd with the cleaning , and I'm stuck like what do I do with these things ? Is it really only for models busts and war gaming stuff? Like can I make a hook for a bath towel? And not have it break etc etc... While I like models , I wanna do more there's gotta be more use cases I haven't found

Just got into 3d printing too. Have an Anyvubic Vyper and a Voxelab Proxima. I am into collectibles so I love the details from the resin printer though the cost to get started is pretty high and more than just the printer and resin. Its also a lot more post processing and requires more safety precautions so do the research when getting into resin printing. The rewards if you like detailed prints are amazing! The vyper has much less setup time and requires almost no post processing but its also given me more hassles especially eith certain types of parts. As the person above mentioned, if you want useful prints and the ability to keep the printer anywhere then cant beat filament.
