Buds+ are $56 on Samsung's site with Edu discount + any headset recycle (could be $1 buds). Buds+ is much better than the original Buds in terms of call quality and battery life.

Nice, I went this route instead and will be sending in some Level U Pros as a trade in.

I've been looking for cheaper earbuds that have ambient sound mode that will work without being connected to a phone. I'd like to wear them on runs (when I don't take my phone) and listen to music on my Garmin watch but also be able to hear cars around me. Does anyone have experience trying something like this with the Buds plus?

If you connect to your phone and turn on ambient mode but then move out of bluetooth range, does ambient mode stay on? If you use the app to set a long press on one of the buds to active ambient mode, does that work even when not connected to a phone?

Yes. Ambient mode will stay when you are out of range. You do not have to connect to your phone at all if you only want to use ambient mode.
Just set long press to toggle ambient mode, which will work when the buds are not connected to a device.

Thanks. That makes these buds worth the purchase to me. Rep.

Just an fyi. When i run with ambient mode on, wind noise affects it greatly. If you have a wind shield for your face it may work, but running around alone made too much wind noise when i turned my head left and right.

Ambient mode will stay on while disconnected from the phone or device otherwise 👍.

I currently switch between these and galaxy buds live.

Both have great SQ, i personally feel they last about the same amount of time per earbud, no real reason why i got both except for the reason that i wanted external buds because i get ear sweat (GROSS).

Personally, on a run/bike, i'd probably suggest the galaxy buds live over these (due to wind noise, thats the only literal reason). Galaxy buds live dont have ambient mode, but if something is loud enough you'll hear it... which i feel is similar to ambient mode on LOW mode for the buds+

Honey had $20 cash back when I got it from the Samsung store, check if they have it still.

I actually did use that $20 offer from honey but I don't see it pending on my honey transaction, I contacted support so hope they will add it. Did you get that $20 from honey right away?

I see that I can get them for $70.99 w/ edu discount and trade-in of any wireless/wired set on Samsung.com, but I'm not seeing how to bring it down to $56. Is there a code to use? Honey doesn't offer anything.

Never mind. I ended up getting the Galaxy Buds (Silver) as listed for $56. They're not sold out as marked above.

Thanks for this!

I ended up getting these and love them!

The wind is really overpowering, so if it's a problem I take one earbud out and turn off ambient mode. I set ambient mode toggle to long press on each earbud so I've got lots of flexibility.

I'm so glad it worked out for you!

I'm a doofus and completely forgot, that you can switch ambient mode off to deal with the wind noise!

Like i said before, they are absolutely, hands down, best earbuds for the price you pay! I have coworkers still hunting for the perfect price/performance earbuds... They always seem to land back on the samsung buds+, live, pro, and 2... Wink

I purchased the Buds+ for ~$115 earlier this year, I've been using them consistently 5-6 days a week at the gym and around the house on Google Pixel 4XL with absolutely zero issues, hands down incredible earbuds.
